The last 2 games his come on as sub I don’t think his managed to get anywhere near most of our long balls out of deference. You need to a least challenge the defender. Bogle still done this and was when he got dragged of early. But twice now Aneke has done it and nothing is said. How people think his good enough to play in championship is beyond me.
Simms comes on for his league debut and scores twice in 20 minutes.1 -
@Sage. Certainly a great start although early days, I think I could have come on and scored against Wigan last night.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Some fans looked at Parker's stats ...... and declared him useless.addick1956 said:
Very true. However Josh Parker did everything but score. At Doncaster in the play off semi final he had a good goal disallowed and hit the post. People moaned but he did contribute.MartinCAFC said:
Could it also be that Doncaster are interested in Bogle because as the old argument goes on here, what goalscorer do we expect to bring in under the wage cap? Who can we pick up to score 12 goals between now and the end of the season within the wage cap? You can guarantee those who oppose the cap are all thinking this along with those who voted for it and need a striker, most teams in this league will fall into those two categories.addick1956 said:
Bowyer often had Bogle on before Aneke. He even said he wears CBS out for Aneke. I thought we lost something when Washington went off. That is another one whi gets slated. Tonight someone said on player markings , " What did Washington do apart from one cross". Silly statement.Todds_right_hook said:
The problem is he hasn’t missed one has he? Bristol rovers, remember that miss? Earlier in the season he was through on goal and turned back. Aneke misses chances because he gets in dangerous positions. Bogle wouldn’t have attacked the ball against Swindon or rochdale like Aneke did.addick1956 said:
As I said he misses one and it ain't forgotten. Aneke misses or does very little like tonight and you forgive him. I think you reinforce bias to suit your view. Bogle is not the best but he is not as bad as people on here think either Aneke has to be stored in bubble wrap at the end of each game which is worrying.Todds_right_hook said:
You mention bogles goal against Swindon but what did he do 5 minutes later?addick1956 said:
I tend to agree with you about Omar Bogle. Even when he was fouled by the keeper against Swindon he managed to scored but was pilloried because he did .Exiled_Addick said:AndyG said:I'm one of the few that actually think he did ok for us. He needed a bit of confidence and you can bet your bottom dollar that he will score goals once he has gone, probably against us lolHard to argue he's done well overall but he's certainly been decent in patches, and there are definitely valid arguments to be made as to why he's not been more of a success not being purely down to his own lack of ability or application. I would certainly say that he's been nowhere near as bad as some of the hyperbole on here and twitter would suggest. With Aneke and Stockley around he's third choice in the target man role, so if we need to free up wages there are probably areas of the squad with less depth that the wages could be better spent on reinforcing. That being said, as I stated elsewhere on here, he ain't bad for a third choice at League 1 level and with Chuks so injury prone I'd ideally prefer to keep Bogle around as backup. It's been a persistent problem that we've had two players for every position but one of them is always injured meaning the other one has to play too many matches and will eventually break down themselves. We're constantly chasing our tails trying to get everyone fit and I worry that could happen with Chuks and Stockley if one of them goes out injured. I can't see a front two of Washington and Schwartz working well at all with no one to hold the ball up and bring the midfield into play.
Chuks missed a sitter against Swindon and nobody said a word against him and it was a sitter .
all strikers miss chances, fact.
the reason that bogle gets criticised is because he misses lots of chances two score two goals. Snake scores often. But aren’t you reinforcing bias for bogle to suit your view?
Aneke is being managed very well this season. Aneke didn’t have the greatest of games but he came on when we were camped in our own half.He broke away once and was hacked. He also broke down the right late on, lost the ball, won it back and got us a throw to relieve the pressure.
what did Aneke do wrong tonight?
would you have bogle in the team ahead of Aneke.
As for what did Aneke do wrong..? It is more a matter of what little he did because he isn't defensive minded or effective there.
Bogle was fine last game and I think he is a confidence player. Fans on his back is no good carping about everything. He won the penalty at Gillingham that Washington missed.
If he leaves he will do well. Doncaster appesr torate him.and their team is better than ours. Strange that.
Having signed Bogle in the summer teams will know he is on a salary within the wage cap and is therefore affordable if they have room to sign him.
A gamble? Maybe. Not guaranteed a first team start? Probably. Scraping the barrel even? It happens and it did with Josh Parker so the same can apply to Bogle and whoever signs him.
I can see how Bogle will be attractive to other teams it doesn't mean we're making a mistake and if it works out for him elsewhere fair play and good luck to him.
After all, he wasn't a natural striker or fox in the box.
But normally you have to watch the games and see what he does off the ball and on.
Then you can appreciate his contribution.
His manager did ........ no chance would he have been picked to start otherwise.
Bowyer even played him for 95 minutes at Wembley.
What does that tell you?

I don’t think Curbishley suggested playing all three in a match, although he did suggest playing both Stockley and Chucks up front together Saturday if the Portsmouth players were as big as what was being said.addick1956 said:
Good point. Curbishley said as much in the post match interview.Cafc43v3r said:
Neither Bogle nor Aneke are naturally target men like say a Stockley. Despite their physical appearance. Chuks is a better target man than Bogle but that's still not his best position. They would both look better playing with Stockley. In fact there is no reason at all why you couldn't play all 3 together.Todds_right_hook said:aneke is big, strong and mobile. Bogle is big strong and immobile.
anekes being mobile allows him to run at defenders which scares them. Not only does him running at goal create chances for himself, but also others. Schwartz v rochdale springs to mind. Snake running at defenders caused a hack last nigh. He also came back to help the defenders last night abs was carrying the ball forward when the whistle went.
bigle plays more back to goal which means the ball goes back rather than forward. The problem is that the ball often goes back to a different colour shirt. Bogle creates very few chances for himself or others in comparison to Aneke.
Bogle has only scored 20% of the goals that Aneke has. I’m not sure of the minutes played by both but I would it is relatively even.
Aneke looks like he will create or score most times he is on the pitch. Bogle doesn’t.
when bogle leaves, I will not lose sleep. He is another kandol, sodje and abbot. People defend him because he is a Charlton player and I get that, he just isn’t a very good Charlton player.I think that could be a good idea if Chucks can do the 90minutes as are games after are Saturdays (no midweeks).
Expect Pearce to come back in as well.0 -
Chucks & Stockley would be an interesting, physical partnership, but neither have 90 minutes in the tank yet and we couldn't do a like for like substitution.Redrobo said:

Also Washington has a calf injury not expecting him to play Saturday.
I can't see Watson fitting a high energy press out of possession where we move the ball quickly in possession either, and that is feature of our recent improvement.0 -
I'm waiting for the news that Washington is out for the season and we're keeping Bogle...5

To be fair Parker was actually pretty decent at Wembley. If that flick between the legs had gone in it would’ve been a special goal.

Even so, if Bowyer hadn't trusted Parker to do the job, he wouldn't have used him.

My vetokele comment above was a joke. Veteokele had just hit form when he got injured and I was nervous that Parker had to play potentially 3 play off games. He did well and deserves credit.Laddick01 said:To be fair Parker was actually pretty decent at Wembley. If that flick between the legs had gone in it would’ve been a special goal.

im still convinced that if he had given him a 2 year deal, he still wouldnt have scored3 -
Igor has got 5 goals in 15 games for Westerlo this season in Belgian 2nd Tier. Good for him, injuries just killed his career for us after a promising start.3

Other than one goal in the Checkatrade last season, Parker failed to score at both Charlton and Wycombe...Todds_right_hook said:

Parker was shit, bogle is 100% a better player all round, we were spoilt with grant and Taylor and that is why the bar is so high, imokillerandflash said:

I’ve emailed @SteveGallen about a young lad called Haaland, a striker, need to get in quick before anyone else spots him ...14

Two of Aneke , Stockley, or Bogle was what he said as in two of the big lads together.Redrobo said:
Expect Pearce to come back in as well.1 -
Avid follower of football. Someone asks me what are my interests, I generally struggle to say anything much beyond football. Sad really. I have others like injuries, anatomy, psychology etc, as well as my music, but otherwise it’s just football.mart77 said:

The last 2 games his come on as sub I don’t think his managed to get anywhere near most of our long balls out of deference. You need to a least challenge the defender. Bogle still done this and was when he got dragged of early. But twice now Aneke has done it and nothing is said. How people think his good enough to play in championship is beyond me.

Currently work for CACT doing a whole range of things all the time. But continuously looking to get in the professional game. I won’t hide that fact. Yes, I have some contacts but they’re not anything major. Overall, just love football.32 -
Tbh mate, I thought you were already in the game so I’m sure you’ll get there soon. You always come across very well when discussing things. Not sad at all. It’s great that you have something that you are really passionate about and hopefully you’ll get that break soon. Whatever the case, myself and many others enjoy your posts and thanks for answering a question I’ve wondered about for a while.👍Sage said:
