I reckon if a club came in for Maddison he would definitely go, but they weren't queuing up to sign him in the summer so it seems unlikely2

Surely not. Everyone knows that players improve under Bowyer......Bolderhumphreyreid said:
Agreed. I think he came here as a player with confidence and played with freedom and he’s leaving a shadow of that player.mendonca said:I don't know why but this constant bigging up is doing my head in abit:

I think he was insulting Maddison. Not you. But could be wrong.addick1956 said:
I know I am winning an argument when you resort to insults 😀cafc_se7 said:
Re. Maddison, I am afraid...what you are quoting has been and gone. You may want to ask Hull for example about their thoughts on him....a team who have also had him since this goals and assists record you mention. Something ain’t right between the ears!addick1956 said:
That doesn't seem to put Brentford of Fosu and Brentford are a far better team than Charlton.ForeverAddickted said:

Doughty isn't a flair player is he . He is about pace alone mostly.ForeverAddickted said:
What about Doughty and Gallagher then?addick1956 said:

Is Millar not a flair player?addick1956 said:
Or why he can't manager or use flair players who make games interesting . One minute people are saying how piss poor League 1 is and the next minute they are happy that the flair players are being flogged off. Lately I have been bored by this never ending defensive stance and demands that players do duties ill fitting them.MuttleyCAFC said:Williams does not count towards the cap under his current contract so doesn't make sense to let him go. Might be an idea for Bowyer to figure out why a club at a higher level is interested.
However I am fed up with Williams' constant falling over when blown one by an opponent .
I don't know what to make of this news. 25 appearances this season apparently.
Fosu
Williams
Maddison
None greatest at a tackle but is that always necessary.
Or Lyle Taylor...
Bowyer being unable to work with flair players is a myth - the difference is he sets his teams up to all work, those who dont, dont play...
Gallagher is a midfield player who is box to box and can pass well. He also likes a tackle.
Maddison and Fosu and Williams are flair type players.
Gallagher and Aribo were perfect examples of players who could run with it, pass or shoot
The difference being is those two could do it with consistent results at the right end whilst also putting in a shit at the other
Maddison | Fosu | Williams have all thought they're too high and mighty to do the dirty work, doesnt wash down here
Williams, high and mighty ?
Maddison 246 plus appearances in 5 and a half years with a big goals and assists record doesn't sound like a player not pulling his weight does it ?
Aribo, well the one I watched went missing for stretches of the game.
FWIW I think the right manager would see Maddison come good again. He needs for me to be the tip of the diamond player when we play that formation. The 'free role' if you will. He has started there once and did pretty well (AFC Wombles), was involved in 3/5 of our goals in that game. No direct assists, but even then he created a few one on one opportunities for the forwards with his vision and passing ability.
If Albie could learn from any of our current crop, it'd be Maddison. Coupled with Bowyer drilling him on the grafting side he could develop to be very good.
Anyway back to rumours, I like the sound of us signing Kirk. Would be more competition for places and a player of our own come the end of the season.

Sad to see that. Had hoped Wiredu would break through4

I liked Brendan. Let’s hope we don’t see him as ‘one who got away’ in a few years time.4

This is an interesting re-imagining of history. When we signed Jonny he was at his lowest point in his career. He'd had a number of unsuccessful loans due to injuries, his most recent being 8 appearances at Ipswich and then 12 at Sunderland where he was having problems with confidence, isolation and loneliness. That player was a shadow of himself. We then signed him, gave him a proper home and he made 16 appearances, which is the most he'd made since 2012/13 culminating in being part of a promotion squad. He was then a huge part of our Championship team until injury hit again and set him back. He's struggled to regain his form since then but Charlton is the first time Jonny has been able to show what he's about and look happy at a club since he broke through at Palace, and he's now being signed by a Championship club with designs on making the Play-Offs again, even if they've not performed this season. We took a player who was struggling to get game time at L1 level and helped him rebuild his career, suggesting that because he's struggled to get into a team that doesn't really suit his style this year has been bad for him is just bizarre. He chose to re-sign with us in the summer and I'm sure he'd say that signing for Charlton was a decision that he doesn't regret.Bolderhumphreyreid said:

CB was the absolute priority for me this window. Really can't work out why we're not in for one.5

Guess Wiredu is potentially another Dempsey
If he's going to be out of contract in the summer then renewing will mean he's going to effect the Salary Cap - Clubs shouldn't be allowed to stockpile but clubs with decent academies at this level are being forced to make knee jerk reactions because of it.
Charlie Kirk and Crewe is probably another perfect example where the club who produced the player either cant afford to keep them (because they've outgrown the club) or because they're going to take up a spot in the Salary Cap because they've not quite reached the level as yet.
Am bored of saying it, am sure people are bored of reading it... But its the part of the cap that is fucking insane!!3 -

Don't think £500k will be enough to get Kirk.
18 months left on his contract, Crewe in with a shout of the play-offs themselves, why would they sell an asset to a rival for that price?2 -

Seems like there's been a few issues with Wiredu, never mentioned by Bowyer and clearly one of our more talented current academy players. Agree with the above that he will probably be very good for whoever signs him. Wish him the best of luck, assume he doesn't count towards the cap as he wasn't in the squad.0

He signed a three year deal in 2018 so by my reckoning he’s in the last 5/6 months of that contract so can see them cashing in if he isn’t going to sign a new deal! That’s unless he signed a new deal since then.Belv said:Don't think £500k will be enough to get Kirk.

I’ve heard Sunderland are interested in Maddison but need a player or two to leave firstForeverAddickted said:

Agreed, but cant think of any team who would want to take him on. Imagine it will be another league one club but cant see it being a promotion rival or Maddison would fancy playing for a relegation battler.ButtleJR said:Have a feeling Maddison will be offloaded as well tbh3 -
I saw this season as make or break for Wiredu as we don't ever seem to hold any young players in the U23's up to the age of 22. Seems to be make it by 21 or gone.
Quite a few other kids due to expire this summer too.MF Dempsey 30/06/21 MF Vennings 30/06/21 MF Wiredu 30/06/21 CB Mingi 30/06/21 CB Vega 30/06/21 FW Clayden 30/06/21 FW Aoucharia 30/06/21 GK Harness 30/06/21 GK Osaghe 30/06/21 MF Quitirna 30/06/21 3 -
Would be surprised if any stay other than Vennings and Osaghe, maybe Aoucharia will get one last year given his injuriesDazzler21 said:I saw this season as make or break for Wiredu as we don't ever seem to hold any young players in the U23's up to the age of 22. Seems to be make it by 21 or gone.

Quitirna simply has to stay. He’s one of our standout players and I can’t see why he’s not already had a chance in the first team.1
