what year do you think we'll get back to the second tier IF we get relegated

i genuinely think we could be down for a good few years , with the inevitable clear out and lack of funds can see a weakened squad and with us being everyones cup final(definitely millwalls) struggling to make decent headway into the third tier
the 3 times we were relegated to the third tier before it took 2 seasons, 3 seasons and 1 season to get promoted
i think we could take around 5 years to get back up without some miracle investment coming from somewhere
kind regards depressed charlton fan ;-(

    I'm more the optimist and reckon we could be next years leicester and bounce back in style.

    However, if we're gonna do massive cloth-cutting, then we could be languishing for about three seasons or so, like QPR Forest and Sheff Wed all did before returning to the second tier

    I'm widely regarded by some posters on here as a doomster/realist/manic depressive, or whatever you want to call it. I've personally always prefered the word pragmatist.

    I was 100 per cent opposed to Parky's appointment as a caretaker - and 200 per cent opposed to his permanent appointment. Why? Because we needed an 'impact' manager to keep us up and that isn't PP, whose forte is slowly and methodically building a team.

    We didn't have time for that. Now we do. Which is why I confidently expect him to at least get us into the div three play-offs next season.

    I think we'll be mid-table at best next season - with another overhaul of the squad I can't see a new team being built and gelling together in time to be a serious threat.

    I reckon it'll take 2-3 seasons before we start challenging for a play off spot

    All guess work. I think even the management at the club have no idea who'll be there next year or even who will be managing us. It could be one season, or things could get even worse. Pointless speculation.

    I would take staying up right now(staying up in Div 3 that is) just to stabilise...

    then the optimism can come back, a decent start to 20010/11 and we can push on....

    The big thing will be if we have players that can score goals,if we have then stright back otherwise a continual struggle

    All depends on whether we have to offload in the summer, if we can keep those players under contract we would do a Leicester, if we let the likes of Bailey, Racon, Jonjo go then I agree that 5 years may well be the time and if we are there as long as that the fan base will have crumbled, the good players will all have left and we will be going up and struggling to survive in the Championship.

    The thing about Leicester is they've spent decent money on players, before and since they've gone down. Matty Fryat was a great signing for them, and has helped them bounce back.

    We could bounce straight back, but I get the feeling it's going to be more like Sheffield Wednesday and QPR

    depends if the club can find a buyer,without one i dont see us coming back up for a few years.

    Keeping the majority of the team together will see us come straight back up at the first attempt. If I was in Parkinson's shoes my plan would be:

    1. sell Hudson and Gray (and get the out of contract players off the books),
    2. buy a good experienced (at League One level) central defensive pair as well getting Kandol permanently and
    3. get some bright young attacking players on-loan from the likes of Arsenal/Man City that are looking to prove themselves to their parent clubs.

    It's hard to say how long we'll stay in League One without knowing what the squad will be, who from this year's squad will stay and go, whether there'll be an investor come in. But we need a good goal scorer - if Gray/Dickson and Kandol (if we sign him full time) score enough goals then we'll be there or there abouts.

    All depends who we bring. We'll have a very different squad. We'll be lucky if we can keep players like Bailey, Racon and Fortune.

    Edit: Or what BFR said. Who we get up front is going to make a huge difference. If we had a few real goalscorers (not Andy Gray) this season we'd have been ok, very least fighting for 21st.

    Look at Leicester - Matt Fryatt with around 30 goals this year has papered over a lot of cracks elsewhere in their team. We need someone to emulate him next year.

    Agreed. We don't even know what our squad will be.

    It'll take the first 10 games next season, before we'll be able to have some indication.

    Otherwise just guesswork based on guesswork.

    May be. But I hope and expect us to come roaring out of the blocks in August and set ourselves up as one of the top teams in the division. After 10 games, we will have 20 pts on the board. Trust me.

    Never mind that, it's back in the Premier League for the Olympic summer of 2012, kicking off our first season back in the top tier as the closing ceremony ends. Is that a good enough target to dream of?


    (Otherwise, we'll probably have to lump a few years in the third, like QPR did, but nobody was ever inspired or encouraged by "pragmatism")

    If we go down this season ... we'll go straight back up.

    We'll have the best ground, best team, best management, best board in League One. We'll be a big fish and, unlike during the January window this year, the players we target will want to come to Charlton.

    We'll build a team around Elliott, Fortune, Hudson, Youga, Basey, Spring, Bailey, Sam, Ambrose, Dickson...

    i think that is ambitious (bailey will probably leave)/foolish - i will be extremely disappointed if hudson and ambrose are still here next year. and i would be surprised if fortune was too. josh wright will be excellent in league one in my opinion

    Yep we're unlikely to see Fortune, Ambrose (both out of contract), Bailey, Racon (both will have clubs watching them) and Hudson (decent wages) in League One.

    TBH I am more in support of us building a squad next season and maybe in 2 or 3 years give it a good shot, look what spending too much poorly has done to us already, we need to be PATIENT!!!
