He may not have got the plaudits, but what an amazing role he played in orbiting the Moon and completing his part of that amazing successful mission.

Once the loneliest man in the universe.
I believe Karl Pilkington actually referred to him as
    “The loneliest man…in the world…ever.” 😂
    Gotta love Karl.

    Anyway.
    RIP Michael Collins.

I wonder if he ever felt astronaut FOMO for not walking on the moon. Still had a great life.

I thought it was Addick Michael/Mick Collins till i opened it
  • Imagine going all that way and not setting foot on the moon surface.
Had a job to do, of course.

That is so weird. I woke up this morning with the phrase “Sic transit Gloria minding” in my head and no idea why. I knew the phrase, but didn’t know what it meant.  And then you use it.

    RIP
  • It's hard to imagine the level of bravery and courage the three of them displayed, trusting their lives to machinery and technology that by today's standards, was extremely primitive.
Armstrong and Aldrin at least had eachother to lean on, Collins was all alone in no man's land.
    RIP hero.

His ancestors came from Dumnanway in West Cork apparently.
He has a small crater named after him on the moon near the sea of tranquility.
Not far from a spot named after another West Cork astronomer Agnes Clerke from Skibbereen.

It all goes on here you know.
    May he RIP.
