I for one am disgusted that our team of teenage debutants didn't win this one

I support the club and have done so since 1967, but that does not mean I should not criticise when I feel it is right to do so?Bostonaddick said:We really have some me miserable fans and some trolls on this forum. We are obviously short on squad quality. Most fans are at least hopeful that we can strengthen before the window closes. There are a number of people posting that are clearly hoping that we don’t so they can moan and complain and rip the club as soon as they can. The same fans that disappear when we are playing well but are the first to post as soon as we struggle
For years, we have been in decline and TS is a ray of hope after all the misery RD heaped on the club. But being really honest, where is our squad this season?
We should have hit the ground running this season, but we have not and the only reason for that is the lack of a plan or any clear investment. That is down to the owner and not the fans.
We deserve much better than we have been served up and TS needs to step up - if and when he does [and lets hope its soon], then every Addicks fan will be behind the club.
I am hopeful we will strengthen in the current window, but why i am wrong to criticise the fact that our squad is so poor that we can't even beat AFC Wimbledon's 2nd team in a home cup match? Worse than that, the performance was terrible and unless we demand more, nothing will change.

That Adkins comment about Davidson is a weird one. His inability to win a header stood out. On at least 3 occasions he was completely unchallenged and the ball bounced over his jump.
It was a bad performance all round from the team. None of the youngsters took their chance to show that they should be challenging a first team spot in a promotion chasing squad.8 -
I was impressed with us defensively on Saturday. I can't see us scoring more than 1 if any at all so we need more of the same against Oxford. I would go as far as to say, if they score, we won't win.7

Very poor, would love to know what game Adkins was watching as that was shite. Only youngster that looked anywhere ready was Deji, the rest very meh. Davison works hard but we need another striker in, we ain’t going up with him as back up.
Albie for all his hard work and energy can’t stick a ball into the box without over hitting it, so frustrating! We need bodies ASAP and I’m afraid that what we will get in will be 5th/6th choices and not good enough, hope I’m wrong.3 -
I have no problem with someone posting negative thoughts on the forum as long as they are balanced on their viewpoints. Many posters like yourself are fair when posting. What I have a problem with is the volume of people who if you look at their posting history only post negative comments. They disappear when we do well but are extremely vocal when we lose. I am not sure if they are fans of another club, like winding up everyone or are just curmudgeons but it is clear to me they are actively hoping we loseMuttleyCAFC said:In other words. Don't you dare point out anything negative or shortcomings of the team/squad on a forum.6 -
Was it Katrien?Henry Irving said:Bumped into a former CEO in the toilet afterwards.
"Same old cup performance" was his comment.
Very flat over all
We huffed and puffed early on, switching the play well and hitting the wingers but the crosses rarely found a Charlton player
Deji did some strong defending and Ghandor was lively but Clayden and Davison, who had our only real shot on target which he should have done better with, disappointed. Roddy isn't ready and doesn't look physically like a professional player. He's not rubbish but Oguntayo looked a better player last year.
We just carried no real threat.
Wimbledon didn't look anything special, no idea if they were at full strength. But they deserved the win.
Another year, another cup disappointed. Just like the red, red, robin, some traditions are hard to kill.

At the game. Unfortunately.
Few positives really to take. Sadly the old stagers, Gunter, Watson and particularly Pearce, were clearly our best players. Felt for Morgan who did everything except what he's paid to do... the final ball. To be fair to him, looked like he gave it to Hady on a plate in the first half only for a complete air shot to render it a passing moment. EDIT: actually that could've been Clayden's pass. Davison's best piece of skill was a beautiful dribbling run taking it backward 25 yards. But he put a shift in... unfortunately his one on one was saved and he missed a header he really should've got on target. The youth were out of their depth, especially Roddy and Ghandour in the 2nd half. The subs came on and both got booked, though in any normal game Dobson would've been fearing a red and Stockley would've been wondering, as he did here, why standing up and flicking on a header is a yellow card offence.2 -

It's not a pre season friendly. Should be playing a competitive team in a cup game surely?
Maybe I'm naive and the days of the cups being important are long gone but I don't think we should accept mediocrity in cup games just because it's what we do. Becomes a self fulfilling prophecy then like losing to Millwall.

I agree but if he isn’t ready to play and we had a game tonight, training with the u-23’s was probably the best place for himDazzler21 said:Ronnie definitely seems to be being frozen out1 -

as long as they can repeat this sort of performance and result in the EFL Trophy I'll be more than happy4

I don't have an issue with it based on our current squad size. I'd rather the young players get a run out and everyone get a bit of early match fitness while we wait for more players to come in than a key player get injured in a nothing gameRodneyCharltonTrotta said:Garrymanilow said:I for one am disgusted that our team of teenage debutants didn't win this one

Maybe we haven't got as much money to spend as we thought we might have.1

We looked overrun in midfield, despite that being the most experienced part of the team. When trying to transition from defence to attack Watson would fire bullets at the players on the wing causing them to lose the ball quite often. Can't believe he played a full season for a championship team finishing 7th just two seasons ago.3

Fair enough and suppose it comes down to perspective as to whether it's a nothing game. For some it isn't for some it is.2 -

The pitch looks wrecked after 2 home games? I know weather has been up and down but groundsman and staff have a job on their hands.0 -

Albeit with a team made up of youngsters, tonight’s performance solidified my concerns from the Sheffield Wednesday game about the team being very one-dimensional.
We don’t seem capable of playing the ball through the thirds, we have very little pace in the team outside of CW and DJ so we’re unable to launch counter-attacks and there’s little to no movement off the ball to compensate for it. We seem to only get joy through long balls up to the front man or diagonal cross-field passes to switch play.
We desperately need a few more signings, especially a new set of full-backs that will open up (counter-)attacking opportunities by bombing on with overlapping runs.
I’m not going to hammer the youngsters tonight so I’ll end with a positive - I like the look of MacGilivray. He commands his box well and inspires confidence. His distribution is a tad underwhelming but I think that’s due to how one-dimensional we are so he doesn’t have many options. He looks a good signing.5 -

I can see Rodney and others point in wanting to take it seriously, I'd quite enjoy getting to a 3rd round at least.
The manager surely would want the same but he knows he is pretty limited with the squad at present. That's how I see it anyway, not that it's great.1 -
Struggling for positives tonight, the squad is nowhere near where it needs to be.
Anyone else find the Roddy thing troubling, he just doesn't look good enough to me. Where did he come from?
6 -
He is a young lad who isn't ready yet. being played because the squad is woefully short at present. No need for us to pick him out because of who his dad is.0
-
I think tonight was a lesson for the youngsters, deji after a good start got a bit over run,the others really got nothing out of a robust Wimbledon defence, but it is the only way to learn. It looks more and more likely that some of these lads will have to step up,so tonight was an ideal opportunity to get some experience.Much as Albie Morgan works his socks off,his corners and free kicks are crap, and really need to be worked on.0

Think the problem is we've just got quite a poor crop of youngsters at the moment by our standards. Wimbledons team today was significantly younger than ours for instance.Airman Brown said:I think tonight showed the difference between young players looking good in pre-season and using them in competitive matches, albeit low-key.0 -
Myself and others said last season that we should have been integrating the younger players in L1 ready for this season. That's not Adkins fault thoughJac_52 said:

Absolutely this, 100%. It's not like he had 11 players on the pitch comfortable and cruising. By the 75th minute half of them were struggling for breath.ValleyGary said:The fact that Adkins didn’t make a sub until the 89th min on Saturday says to me he’s not happy with the recruitment.3 -
When Wimbledon scored they had the over load on numbers and the fourth guy in the box scored with their first attempt on goal.
Start with the Positive:
Deji looks a great prospect and I would put him in the team when Inniss gets his mandatory muscle injury in the next six weeks.
MacGillivray dealt with some dodgy pass backs quite well with his feet.
No more positives.
Now the negatives:
Ghandour is lively but doesn't look ready.
Clayden after hearing CL comments before tonight I expected more, but he struggled to Impress.
Roddy just looks uncomfortable, when a forward runs at him.
Clare is decent but underperformed tonight.
Morgan was everywhere and did some decent passes along with the over hits and the usual good, bad and ugly set pieces.
Watson played ok for a walking footballer who has slowed down since last season !
We play 4-3-3 where no one is allowed to get close to the central Striker, Davidson for most of the game and when Stockley came on, Davidson went close to Jayden for the first time, and what do you know ? A chance was created by Stockley for Davo who lobbed the keeper and the goal and put it in the covered end.
One shot on target in about 190 minutes of Football at the valley this season.
Poor return and we must do better. Not sure we will if Stockley doesn't get a strike partner.
Oh how I yearn for the league cup matches of old when we at least we took Forest Green Rovers to penalties before screwing up.
