What makes it more impressive he’s only been with us for about a year, we signed him from Maidstone.

Great that we’re continuing to give non-league youngsters a chance Aribo and Pope showed there is talent out there.

This is what Anthony Hayes said about him soon after he joined:

“Mason’s been very recently signed from Maidstone. So he’s literally just been offered and signed a scholarship off the back of a successful trial period. I’ll need to get to know Mason as a person and character. But in terms of a centre-forward he’s got a wonderful shape, decent athleticism, can manage the ball, and knows where the goal is. So he’s gonna offer us a nice alternative to Dylan Gavin.”

And an assist for the last goal I think

    Yes.
  • He’s 17? He has no right to be scoring goals like that! What a prospect 👏

I didn't realize that Burstow only joined a year ago even though a dad of a lad who was released at 15 by Cafc did say he hadn't heard of him(18 now) so I guessed he couldn't have been with us long. Sounds similar to the situation with Joe Aribo and Lookman who both joined around the same age.
Aribo from Staines after his time in the successful *Kinetic foundation. Found out last night that Deji Elerewe was at Palace from 9-11 spent a short time training with the  foundation before signing for Cafc at 12 years old.

Lookman who played for Waterloo  and appears to have been considered too small was offered to Cafc with the proviso that he was given opportunity of first team football while still a teenager IF his form warranted it.

Three different sources from inside Charlton, a guy who played in the National League last season, and played in the same Waterloo team as Ademola and is still his mate and also a Dad who's son spent time in the Academy.
A demand, more than a request was how all 3 said it.

I assumed only Joe Gomez's agent or dad could do that ! The one thing Katrien said that I 100% believed was getting phone calls every time Joe didn't start a game in his first season by his agent after making his debut.
The worst kept secret in Football was we had one of the best 14 year olds defenders.

I have watched Burstow 3 times now, two u18 games and his Cameo last night and he has a great chance of making it. Let's hope at least 50 games or so are with Cafc before the money talks as it did with Ademola Lookman.

Joe Aribo walking away at the end of his contract was just short sighted poor management of a football club.

    * Baah, Aribo, Joe Maja and a Left Back Norrington-Davies ! are just some of the players Cafc should've been at the front of the queue for. It's a south London football foundation who get lads and give an education to on and off the pitch.

Baah going to Rochdale when Charlton and Millwall were on his doorstep seemed strange.

  • What is his style? His finish was good and he looked comfortable with the ball at his feet. Is he any good in the air?

Burstow has good feet, moves well and looks like he is decent in the air.
He also has composure when he sees the goal posts; scored a clinical finish in the southern section of the u18's last season.
A couple of good touches before out Whitting the defenders and hitting the target.
Both Burstow and Deji Elerewe should play a part this Season in the 18 but let's hope they aren't treated like Karlan Grant at 17 who after injuries became our main striker and then got slagged off by the Cerebrally challenged.

Great debut goal, but please Mason no more knee slides you'll hurt yourself.
It was never going to happen, particularly on the side that's had some issues. ;)

  • Good luck Mason, hope we see a lot more of you in the first team before you move on  upwards.

Very good player! We’ve also got Kanu coming through, who is a goal machine. Also like the look of Williams and Chin, think the future is very bright.
  • Pleased for Mason and the club. It’s actually about time we produced another top notch striker. Karlan was I suppose the last.
  • Not only scores with his first touch in his first game, but scores a goal so technically difficult, that I had to rewind it multiple times to try and work out how he managed it.

Well done Mason, here's to many more in a CAFC shirt!

    Looks like a great prospect.
Along with the other youngsters that are showing great promise it will show proper intent if we tell clubs they are not for sale when they come knocking

Couldn't watch the whole game - purely for the goal and assist or anything else?

He only came on with 10 minutes to go. To have the impact he did in that time was impressive.
  • He showed great desire to score from where he was. The ball was behind him and he did very well to generate enough power and direction to force the header in. Many other players may have been tempted to try and touch the ball back to someone else instead of risk fluffing the chance. A great ten minute cameo. Hopefully he will get a few longer runouts from the bench this season in  games we are winning comfortably.
  • Good news as he looks to have a bright future. Best of luck Mason.
  • Would love him to start today
  • Forgot to mention.  He was in crossbars Saturday after the game with what I presume were family and friends.  7 pint deep me went and had a quick chat with him, comes across as a proper nice kid and very down to earth, said he’s looking forward to the fa cup because he may get minutes.
I read that as he was seven pints deep at first!

    Second one of many!
  • Dont need to find another Striker out there with this kid in the team

Know its only Southampton U21s and Havant & Waterlooville but he certainly knows where the goal is.
