    He looked a big old unit & everyone thought he would get done everytime someone ran at him. But he was canny & an excellent defender. One of the best players we signed in the Premiership years.

    Top quality player, proof that the first yard is in the head. Went back to Porto and won the champions league, we taught him all he knows :-)

    Funnily enough if the Portugal guys that were trying to buy the club last season before guitar man did he probably would have been the head coach.

    Have to say I’ve seen a lot of good centre backs at Charlton over the last 63 years but he was easily the best.
    Positional sense was absolutely world class, calmness personified, he knew all the short cuts too, so he never looked hurried or panicked.
    Fortune was privileged to play alongside and be tutored by him, he played the best football of his career with Jorge as the governor!
    Really sorry that we didn’t get to see more of him.
