Someone needs to take him to one side and have a word with him. I never thought he'd make it as he was so totally lacking in instinct and reading of the game. But since we've been in the champ his willingness to support his full back and increasing ammount of assists have surprised me. I still wonder, like most of our team, that without a driving force pushing the team up into the final third whether he'll be able to provide initiative at champ level but in league one he should be a dominant force.
Someone needs to take him to one side and get him putting crosses in early as he is accurate, just he never bloody crosses unless he perceives it to be the perfect moment.

Could be so important for us next season, needs to add goals to his game and keep improving his final ball as he has done.
Potential was always there it's just like with players such as Thomas, Ambrose etc how much he really wants it and if he really pushes on or not.0 -

His confidence needs to be worked on. Maybe a really good season next year may see him really progress. Appreciate it was a nothing game but great to see us end the game with only one loanee in Butternut and promise in nurtured talent with Tuna,Solly,Wagstaff,Shelvey,Elliot and Racon.0 -
Parky did say to me on Tuesday (at the sponsors evening) that he has had a word with Lloyd Sam and told him to get the ball in early, when the strikers make their first run.
He said "He always wants to get in the perfect cross, but in trying to do that, often wastes the chance, which is infuriating"

I think he's been fairly consistant since xmas, deff one of our betta players since the turn of the year. He'd have a lot more assits if we'd bloody had ppl in the box he's put in countless perfectly waited cross's, only for us to have 1 (at a push) player in the box.
But agreed does need to add goals to his game, I think that will come though looks alot more confident since had a decent run in the team
Will be a key player for us next season and hopefully beyond0 -

But in the lower league's it can set the tone for how you play, and where you play; hopefully more in the opposition's final third.
Sam clearly has skill. If Parky's telling him that then good, but they should be getting him to play the percentage game with his crosses when he's more static. He clearly is better as an instinct player but when the game's not going for us he needs to hit the early ball when there is presence in the box. I've only ever seen him do that at Tottenham at home, where he looked to cross it everytime in the final third. Came to very little but put pressure on the defenders and in the lower leagues that leads to goals.0 -

that's interesting and well done parky. sam was good today and he'll play a big part next season. sometimes the wrong choices he makes overshadows the times he does the right thing.

Exactly what is the time scale/number of games after a Charlton academy/youth player becomes ripe for the kind of shite Sam has had to endure? Granted, he took a few many touches before he put the ball in in earlier this season but he is a Charlton player. he has grown this season, I think he is a terrific player. He is a winger and this season he has grown into the role and made that position his own.
I suspect today was the last time we will see him in a Charlton shirt.0 -

I believe he'll stay, when he was we subbed today you could see he really wanted to stay on and he clapped the fans as he went off. Surely that shows that he wants to stay? If so, keep him if any way possible!

Colin, I have been critical of him for that very reason but not today. This was possibly his best performance in a Charlton shirt. I have felt in recent games that the penny has started to drop with him. I hope it has because with his technical skill he could be a big player for us next season.0

I'm sure he wants to stay, it's just down to if the club get a bid, the manager thinks he can replace him and we tell him we need him to go to help the club. I can see a few clubs looking at him and thinking if he carries on improving he'll be a good player for them.
I hope he stays, I have got frustrated with him, but he has improved and is easily our best option on the right. We'll struggle to sign anyone better.
At times I think many fans forget he only started playing regularly last season, at 22/23 he was quite inexperienced for his age.

Agreed i hope he stays next season, at times I thought he was very 'raw' in his play , seemed to be either very good, or very poor.
But looks a lot more mature, certainly worth keeping.0 -

I couldn't agree more. I can understand why people have got frustrated with him but he's stopped running into the corners and taking four or five touches before launching an ineffective ball into the arms of a waiting goalkeeper. What he was doing yesterday was making it impossible for defenders to work out where he was going to go. Sometimes he'd cut inside and sometimes take it to the byline. I've always thought he has the potential to be a cracking little winger.0 -
