remember John from my very early days as an Addick .. also recall him coming back to the Valley with Palace .. reliable old school defender ..  R I P
  • May he RIP ❤️
  • Just about remember John. Sad to hear of his passing RIP
  • Right back when I first supported Charlton. Even as a nipper, I could appreciate how reliable he was (or, perhaps, my Dad told me so). RIP John.
  • Johnny Sewell went to my old school, Roan Grammar as it was in those days. He came back and did some football coaching whilst he was playing for Charlton and Palace. RIP, sir.
  • He coached me at the Roan school. Ran rings around us!

Remember him well…..good player, solid, consistent and dependable is how I would describe him. Can’t ever remember him having what you would call a bad game.
He eventually emigrated to America, where he continued his career in the very early days of semi-pro football.
He was a real gent by the way.
    RIP…..John…..RIP.
  • RIP John. Was a regular in the first team I supported.

Before my time always did to hear news like this. My condolences to his family and freinds.
  • Saw John play for us many times and yet another player we let go to a rival (Palace) who did well after leaving.

    RIP John.

He was before my time at Charlton, remember him playing for Palace in the late 60's.

His son used to post on Glynnes list, think he spoke fondly of his time at The Valley.

    RIP

  • Good full back who was very quick which was not surprising as he was a champion schoolboy sprinter.
    RIP John
  • Oh dear
    RIP
Saw Johnny Sewell play many times. Could probably out sprint any of all our backs. He also packed a shot which though used sparingly always lifted the spirits.

First professional footballer I met and spoke to. Must have been about 9.

Went to school with his nephew when he played for Palace. Even in my young mind I didn't take to him purely because of this.

Saw him play at The Valley a couple of times.

    RIP.

One of the earliest cases (in my time at least) of a Charlton/Palace player move - although that didn't quite have the unpleasant feel then that it has today.

    RIP
