He didn't exactly set the world on fire at Charlton but never-the-less I think just about all of us knew he was a bloody good player............now where have we heard that before!

Thought he was no more than ok.

On the ball he was good for a centre half but hardly ever won a header or dominated forwards, definately not upto Prem standard imho.
  • I can't ever remember coming home and saying 'didn't Bougherra have a great game'......

A good player who had a few injury problems with us, if he'd played more regularly then I don't think anyone would have had any doubts about his ability or his performances.

I think we broke even on paper - signed for £2.5m and I think he was on his way to West Brom for £2m before Rangers offfered £2.5m.

You really can see how much better he is than some of the clowns that have played for us in that position this season. Should never of sold him or Reid oh dear better not go there :-)

When he played for us I thought he was a decent player who really couldn't be arsed. He came to us from Wednesday looking for a quick step up into the premiership but never put a decent shift in.

He put in a stern shift in his first game away at manyoo, then Saha tried to snap his leg backwards at the knee in one of the most cowardly challenges I have seen go unpunished. Buggered the rest of the season up for him, then last season he was the best defender on the park for us.

He was real quality. Yes he was a little inexperienced but quality nonetheless. My abiding memory of him was the Palarse home game in the first Championship season when he was just outstanding. He broke up their attacks, his distribution meant that that instead of giving the ball away cheaply we kept the pressure on Palarse who couldn't cope.

Yeah and we could well see this next season, might show just how good players like Fortune and Zheng are if we don't find good replacements.

Bougherra just needed the right CB partner - somebody dominant, big and ugly who would always go for the 1st ball.
Magic then mops up with aplomb.

When he was paired by Fortune, neither were dominant attack the 1st ball defenders, so defending our boxes from crosses was always a bit hit or miss ....... and we conceded a net full of soft goals.

But then that's the manager's job to sort out, right?

    Anyway, good luck Boogie!

sorry don't know if this has been said elsewhere, but just seen the quality goal he scored for Rangers the other day - carried from inside his own half, mazy run and good finish

it's the last of the 7goals so about 4mins 45seconds in

Magic used to score goals like that for Crewe and Sheff Weds - but at Charlton, Pardew was determined to stamp that out.

The sale of MB was the big mystery that should have told us trouble was in store.

We bought him for £2m and fell out with Sheff Wed for nicking him cheap, but before the new season was a month old , we sold him for roughly the same price we paid.
He then goes on to play Champs Lge footy, while we drop into this dirt box of a division.

Best ball playing defender that i can remember. Can't believe the rubbish people wrote on another thread slagging him off. The biggest
mistake of our relegation season was letting him go.
  • Think it was his last game for us when he picked up the ball near our area and tried to take on all the opposition, losing the ball, then laying there pretending to be injured while they got on with the game and scored.

If you really think that Pardew was mislead about the finances and was unaware that Magic would have to be sold, have a word with Henry. I'm sure he can confirm that Pardew was fully aware of the state of the finances. The fact that Pardew pissed much of the clubs money away is down to him as much as to the board.

Was that when he was playing at right back and tried to beat a player near the halfway line? Then Lisbie went on to win a penalty?

Agreed. That odious creep is incapable of accepting responsibility for his incompetence.

Compare and contrast with the way Parky took the Northwich debacle on the chin.

    Pardew is a classless twat.

You can tell I like the bloke! I kick myself for actually thinking at the time that he would be good for us as an ex Charlton player.
