Talks ongoing regarding Jackson's assistant manager

I suppose the opposite approach is having a much older person as the assistant, someone who's been there, done that. Lennie Lawrence had that role for a few years, working under younger managers like Freedman at Palace, Bolton and Forest.2

@c@Cafc43v3r, quite a big statement that. What makes you feel he's become the most powerful manager we've had in a decade?Cafc43v3r said:It's got to be Jackson's choice, if that means upsetting and potentially losing Euell so be it.
It's remarkable really that inside 8 months Jackson went from being over looked for the job, potentially twice, to becoming the most powerful manager the club have had in a decade.0 -
There was a rumour on here not long ago that TS wanted JJ to have an experienced assistant. I think that’s more likely given JJ and Euell are probably seen by TS as lacking experience.bolloxbolder said:I'd like it to be someone who could step up if JJ is found wanting. Won't be Michael Beale but of that ilk.0 -
Well the ones under Roland didn't have much power did they? Adkins and Bowyer both had noddy Roddy. The last person that had the authority Jackson now appears to have was Powell.mendonca said:

You could also add that Jackson has all the supporters on board as well.Cafc43v3r said:

Andy Hughes seems highly plausible but where does that leave Jason Pearce at the end of this season and where does his progression into coaching start? Would he not be a possible assistant manager? How about Chris Powell or even Curbs - inject a bit of experience / mentoring to help JJ?0

If we're in L1 next season, you can imagine Pearce having a junior coaching role along with another year's playing contract.DOUCHER said:Andy Hughes seems highly plausible but where does that leave Jason Pearce at the end of this season and where does his progression into coaching start? Assistant manager is far too soon for him6 -
I think i'm right in saying Jacko has never been out of the first team set up in his transition from player to coachkillerandflash said:

Must be Jason Euell or as long shot Dean Kiely.0

He hasn't but its different circumstances now. If Pearce both stays here and continues playing he will have to be one of 4, 5 at the most, specialist center backs. Could not be a problem if the squad cap is abolished or we have more underage first team players.DOUCHER said:

A good Coach who has never been a manager or picked a team above academy level. I assume Beale applied for the Job as Thomas Sandgaard mentioned him ?
If JJ is found wanting !
Blimey, I was really hoping the support for Johnnie Jackson was going to last longer than a defeat in the west Country.

Pearce would have to start with the youngsters an impress there. Just like Euell has.DOUCHER said:Andy Hughes seems highly plausible but where does that leave Jason Pearce at the end of this season and where does his progression into coaching start? Looking at the body language, I always thought that JJ and Euelly appeared to work well together and that the latter also seems to have a good relationship with the players.
Would love to have Andy Hughes back at the club, though!3 -
I'm surprised to read about this, I assumed Jason would just carry on with JJ.1

I reckon we'd probably need 6 CB's if Pearce was going to be a player/coach. Don't think that's an issue with the squad cap if one of them is Deji.Cafc43v3r said:

Agree with having some experienced, although it won't be Powell or Curbs. Someone like Mark Robson who also has recent League 1 experience could be worthwhile. Although I think he joined West Ham earlier in the year to work with their U18s.DOUCHER said:Andy Hughes seems highly plausible but where does that leave Jason Pearce at the end of this season and where does his progression into coaching start? I believe Mark Bowen is currently unattached. He was highly rated but worked alongside Mark Hughes for a job too many I think. Not been in the game in a little while so might be another Adkins but was a decent coach1

Interesting how people bring up ex-players as suggestions.
I know there’s value in someone who knows the club and understands the culture, but surely the most important thing is that it’s someone JJ wants to work with and, with the greatest of respect to Dean Kiely and Mark Bowen, I’m not sure JJ has ever worked with either of them, and possibly hasn’t even met them.
Andy Hughes, on the other hand, makes more sense as they’ve worked together successfully before.
Anyway, whoever it turns out to be, I hope it’s JJs choice.3 -
Apparently that Steve gritt fella is alright, by all accounts has unfinished business!!😜lordromford said:Interesting how people bring up ex-players as suggestions.

Andy Hughes hasn't had a job on the training ground for 3 months less than Bowen, who in turn has been out of the game about 3 months less than Adkins was. Bowyer was out of the game for nearly twice the length of time Adkins was.Swisdom said:I believe Mark Bowen is currently unattached. It's a totally irrelevant detail.2 -
JJ's choice.0
-
I heard Roger Johnson is coming in from Bromley as first team coach and Head of Linguistics.5
-
Damian Matthew is another former coach that Jacko will know from his playing days2
