I suppose the opposite approach is having a much older person as the assistant, someone who's been there, done that. Lennie Lawrence had that role for a few years, working under younger managers like Freedman at Palace, Bolton and Forest.2

There was a rumour on here not long ago that TS wanted JJ to have an experienced assistant. Well the ones under Roland didn't have much power did they? Adkins and Bowyer both had noddy Roddy. The last person that had the authority Jackson now appears to have was Powell.mendonca said:

Andy Hughes seems highly plausible but where does that leave Jason Pearce at the end of this season and where does his progression into coaching start? Would he not be a possible assistant manager? How about Chris Powell or even Curbs - inject a bit of experience / mentoring to help JJ?0

He hasn't but its different circumstances now. If Pearce both stays here and continues playing he will have to be one of 4, 5 at the most, specialist center backs. Could not be a problem if the squad cap is abolished or we have more underage first team players.DOUCHER said:

Pearce would have to start with the youngsters an impress there. Looking at the body language, I always thought that JJ and Euelly appeared to work well together and that the latter also seems to have a good relationship with the players.
Would love to have Andy Hughes back at the club, though!3 -

Agree with having some experienced, although it won't be Powell or Curbs. Someone like Mark Robson who also has recent League 1 experience could be worthwhile. I believe Mark Bowen is currently unattached. He was highly rated but worked alongside Mark Hughes for a job too many I think. Not been in the game in a little while so might be another Adkins but was a decent coach1

Interesting how people bring up ex-players as suggestions.
I know there’s value in someone who knows the club and understands the culture, but surely the most important thing is that it’s someone JJ wants to work with and, with the greatest of respect to Dean Kiely and Mark Bowen, I’m not sure JJ has ever worked with either of them, and possibly hasn’t even met them.
Andy Hughes, on the other hand, makes more sense as they’ve worked together successfully before.
Anyway, whoever it turns out to be, I hope it’s JJs choice.3 -

Andy Hughes hasn't had a job on the training ground for 3 months less than Bowen, who in turn has been out of the game about 3 months less than Adkins was.
