Competition: FA Cup 3rd Round
Opposition: Norwich City
Location: The Valley
Introduction
Following our win at Gateshead, every Charlton fan would have been gripped to the TV, watching on as David Seaman chuckled his way through the Third Round Draw. After avoiding a dull Championship away day, we got what we wanted; a Premier League team at home. Unfortunately that team was Norwich.
With the playoffs seemingly miles away, the cup competitions have given us something else to be mildly optimistic about in recent weeks.
There are no replays in this year's FA Cup 3rd and 4th round. Teams can use up to 5 substitutes.
The Opposition

Norwich City
Nickname - The Canaries
Formed - 1902
Current League Position - 20th (English Premier League)
Manager - Dean Smith
Captain - Grant Hanley
Top Goalscorer - Teemu Pukki (5 goals)
The current biggest yo-yo around, Norwich look set to return to the Championship at the end of the season. Back to back wins at the start of November (under different managers) are long forgotten, as the Canaries lost all 5 games in December without scoring a goal. It's only a few months ago that they were coming up to the Premier League as champions so will be dangerous.
Their New Year's Day fixture against Leicester was postponed due to covid cases within the squad. Like us, they're back in action on Wednesday so unlikely they'll risk too many of their 'stars'. They've had quite a few injuries, including Pukki who is unlikely to start an FA Cup game when they're only 3 points from safety.
Young strikers Adam Idah (Hat trick in the FA Cup 3rd round a couple of years ago) and Josh Sargent will most likely lead the line for them.
Team News
We know Famewo can't be involved against his parent club, and Stockley could be out for a while with a hip issue. Minutes for Inniss and Matthews on Tuesday night could see either of them starting this one, especially with 5 substitutes being allowed.
Henderson has played the previous rounds so expect him to get the nod in goal. But other than that, I would expect us to play our best team available.
My predicted team:
Henderson
Clare Elerewe Pearce
Jaiyesimi Purrington
Dobson
Gilbey Lee
Leko Washington
Prediction
2-1 (Washington, Lee) We're a cup team now.

Is Deji eligible to play, I thought he was suspended due to getting booked in both previous rounds?0
-
Yeah just went on Google and the scum link says that two yellow cards (prior to the Quarters) will result in a match suspension - Didnt realise that was the case either, but its understandable.JohnnyH2 said:Is Deji eligible to play, I thought he was suspended due to getting booked in both previous rounds?
Imagine we'll see more minutes for Ryan Inniss
Edit: Looks like Deji IS eligible to play.

Going by Pg6 of the Doc at the bottom of that link, 2-yellow cards result in a suspension for clubs that enter the competition at the Third Round - 4-yellow cards result in a suspension for clubs entering at at the Qualifying Stage OR First Round
As you were Ben

Surely we have to focus on the Hartlepool game now.11

We didnt look like scoring against an average Wycombe. Dont see much difference against Prem League squad players.1 -
I think we'll see Innis in the middle, rather than Deji. The latter seems a bit less confident of late, so it would be good to see him get a loan and learn the game.1

"It's a cup game we really need to win.....If we succumb to Charlton in the Cup, we know that the sport's media and the other club's etc, will have an absolute field day...."
tbh mate i don't think anyone would care.

Unlike us, they have a strong local media presence in their catchment area.Karim_myBagheri said:Norwich fan view -

Looks a decent lineup, i dont see why we need to rest our Goalie so chuck him in for Hendo. Spirited performance but Norwich too good even with Pukki 1-3 to the team in yellow.
Reminds me of when they robbed us away 2-2 last minute after Holt fouled our player before scoring, could be a good atmosphere if they bring alot down1 -
No Stockley = No win1

Not a prayer. We couldn’t beat MK Dons on Tuesday and to think we’ll roll over a Premier League team is to me fanciful. 0 - 45

Think we might be in for a battering :-(0
-
If Norwich play 6 or 7 first team players that will be enough to beat us comfortably.
We are despite what some may think a bang average league one side.1 -
Going to be without 2 decent forwards up top. I appreciate Leko can step in, but he blows hot and cold. Having said that, he and some of our other creative players like Lee and DJ may show a bit more given Prem opposition. Some players that are creative in nature seem to get a kick out of the occasion.
I would love a good cup win. Was watching the goals when we beat Sheff Wed in 96 on twitter the other day. I know we were a much better team then than we are now, but we can have a little dream we'll be in the hat come Monday can't we :-)

Aston Villa... 1-4 Liverpool | 1-2 Fulham | 0-3 Swansea
Brentford... 0-1 Notts County | 5-1 Eastleigh - 0-4 Chelsea | 0-1 Walsall0 -
Will Norwich be saving their top players for the relegation scrap ? .. whatever, most Premier clubs are well capable of putting out a decent 'second' string .. we are striving for Championship status, the Canaries look like being in the Championship next season and will find it difficult to keep up their yo-yo trick .. we are well capable of beating Norwich even without Stockley to score the goals .. a win on Sunday and then Chelsea at home in Round 4 please ..
CAFC 2 v Norwich City 10 -
Stockley mising is a big blow - i'd have had Leko in for DJ1

I am pretty sure that we beat Norwich at their place with a very late, very tame J Jackson goal that the keeper dived over (I was there) .. (2014 or 15 ?) .. at the time Norwich were well placed in the table and we were not so well placed lol ..1
