Sandgaard is not Charlton
lancashire lad

If it is correct that Jackson was told of his departure by phone then that is disgusting and cowardly. TS has seen enough of JJ in the past few days to tell him face to face.
Charlton is known as a family club, this is not how a family should behave. In my career as a personnel director I have had occasion to terminate the employment of staff and have always done it face to face, it is the least that an employee deserves.
For Sandgaard to do it or arrange it by phone is just very poor and reflects badly on our club
I don't think I will return to the Valley during his ownership the whole thing stinks.

How do we know it was done over the phone?0

Was it definitely done by phone?0

We dont. But Sandgarrd is now back in America & all the press releases say JJ was told today.Mendonca In Asdas said:How do we know it was done over the phone?0 -
According to the local reporter and ES it was by phone0

There are two sides of course. Maybe the person coming in had only just confirmed and said he needed to start his management asap for obvious reasons and therefore it was done this way. I may be wrong but I don’t think you get to where sandgard is by hiding.3
-
Was he hired by phone, had meeting by phone etc?
I wouldn't like be sacked by phone but if my boss lives 5,000 miles away, then surely its part for the course!
how did Adkins get sacked, I think Tommy was in the country at that point. Most agreed on here that Tommy should have sacked him earlier, would it have been acceptable if Tommy sacked Adkins by phone two weeks earlier?11 -
Personally, I think it’s irrelevant - you have been sacked - a very short conversation - actually, if it happened to me, I would prefer over the phone - no stilted handshake and all that shit54
-
I have it on good authority that he sacked JJ via a tick tock video................34

Can someone find the stats on the method of each of our managerial sackings?17

The world has changed my friend. Most meetings are done online these days. Better to wait until after the POTY evening as to not distract from that. Jackson had to go.lancashire lad said:If it is correct that Jackson was told of his departure by phone then that is disgusting and cowardly. Danger here of reading the words literally and which may or may not be true. But context is everything. We don’t know what conversations they have had in recent weeks. Nor do we know if TS had told JJ he would be speaking with him today etc.
But as others have said as an American TS is more used to a hire and fire culture where this would be more normal too.
There is no good way to do this. At least in football you must, as a manager , know it’s always on thr cards to some extent.Next moves tell us far more I think in terms of replacement and signings.1 -
I don’t think it’s a massive issue to be honest. Jackson knew his contract included clauses that put him at risk so it wasn’t totally out of the blue. Doing it over the phone isn’t the equivalent of text/email.7

Also, if you are the person being sacked, if over the phone, you are in control of the situation - once you are told the news, just put the phone down, and fuck off down the pub - face to face, you are likely to have to sit through some HR twat going through the crud to make sure they ‘do the right thing’, and also sit through the person who made decision wringing their hands, with crocodile tears, trying to justify their decision
End of the day - you have just sacked me mate - fuck you - move on - speak to my solicitor / agent to sort out the paperwork - I’m off to Ibiza with the wife for a ruddy good time !!6 -

Come on guys, Jackson had no clue what he agreed to and shouldn't be expected to have that knowledge. Jackson didn't deserve to be sacked let alone by phone.
He certainly never knew anything about a league position target back when he agreed his deal.5 -
Thomas flew back home on Monday I believe and it’s not exactly wise to do it at the POTY dinner on Sunday.
I believe Jacko also went on holiday today
so the phone appears to be the practical solution. I agree face to face would probably be preferred all round but it’s not always possible12 -

What if Jackson was told in person after Saturday but TS rang him and confirmed it today?Nothing like telling everyone how outraged you are before you know the full story6

In relation to it being 2022 and people being told all sorts of bad news over the phone (Teams / Skype / etc / etc) these days, if that's even the case in this instance.Lordflashheart said:

Step up from being sacked by email, I guess… 😉8

In my world a phonecall now generally involves a Teams call, so it could well be that there was a virtual face to face.None of us know when the decision was made. I genuinely believe that Ipswich may have been the straw that broke the camel's back (yes it was that bad).If it was, then how else was this going to be done of TS was flying back Monday?1

Or an 800 person, few minutes, Zoom call if you worked for P&O…….Airman Brown said:Step up from being sacked by email, I guess… 😉1 -
Clueless and classless.5

There’s a quote from TS I read earlier it sounds like the decision was already made, Ipswich wouldn’t have made a difference.Clem_Snide said:In my world a phonecall now generally involves a Teams call, so it could well be that there was a virtual face to face.None of us know when the decision was made. Might have been this one, can’t see as it’s asking me to register to view the whole article.
From what Airman has said league postion determined how much it would cost to sack Jackson. So losing on Saturday may have saved TS money. It would explain why he waited until after the last game.

Since March 2020, this is the modern world (no doubt, in certain industries, it predates that) - and the old world will not return….Gribbo said:
