JOHNNIE JACKSON - managed AFC Wimbledon to 2025 League 2 Play-off Final victory(p46)

I'm sad and disappointed it didn't work out for JJ. Club legend and someone we'd all want to succeed.
My one-word description of last season would be 'dispiriting' though. Injuries, bad start, threadbare defence that always seemed to leak a goal, caretaker-manager bounce before Xmas and then precious little to cheer after that. So no surprise TS made the decision that something had to be done.
As for the next guy, it has to be someone who can quickly decide who to keep and then identify who we can get in to push the remaining players on a bit. Easier said than done given that the players are all on their holidays now, so no chance of seeing them training for a while. Videos and the black-box are one thing but I suspect most managers would want to see how players work together to identify those that can help build a team spirit and those that are a bit moody. Maybe that's where JE comes in.
If it was me choosing then my heart says Curbs and Powell - one for grinding out results and the other for adding a bit of flair. However I'd be surprised if TS goes for anyone who hasn't had a management job for a while. He tried that, and then the club legend. Next one is more likely to be someone who has at least managed a promotion recently.
Of the names mentioned, there are way more on the list that I really wouldn't want to see in our dugout than I would. Darren Ferguson or Steve Evans, ? No way and no effing way for example.0 -
Johnnie Jackson joins a long list of Charlton Legends to get shafted by this venerable football club.
Seed
Trotter
Firmani
Foley
Powell
To name but a few. Led by donkeys.
When will we ever learn?2 -
Dazzler21 said:The Red Robin said:This nonsense of wanting Jacko to finish 8th after taking over in the bottom four just suggests TS never really wanted him.
Jacko had 33 games to work with after coming in following a return of 9 points from 13.
Ultimately the target for Jacko to reach 8th place ended up being 68 points required from 33 games. That is above 2ppg and the form that would’ve seen us win the league had it been played out across a season.Unfortunately it’s become clear that the expectations were unrealistic and anyone who took the job, Jacko or otherwise, was on a hiding to nothing.24 -

Jackson was being asked to get the club from 23rd to 8th in order to extend his contract beyond the initial 4-5 months. That’s some stretch that was being asked of him.

He was forced into giving JJ the job and things went to shit, pretty obvious what was coming really.0

It was an impossible task with what Jacko had to work with.9 -

Jacko showed his belief in the current set up with the amount of minutes he played loan signings he didn't choose.
Gunther
Watson
Arter
Matthews
Yid loanee
Chelsea loanee
Elliot Lee
Injuries to Stockley, Washington, Aneke, Lavelle and Innis.
And yet he should have got EIGHTEEN MORE POINTS??!
TOP TWO FORM
WITH THIS SQUAD?!
Sigh.
THE SQUAD JACKO DIDN'T CHOOSE
THE LOAN PLAYERS HE DIDN'T RATE
THE INJURIES WE HAD
YET YOU THINK IT IS / WAS ????
In no world could this current squad get promoted
Yet "others have"1 -

Gutted but not surprised, just like a lot of peeps,it just wasn’t meant to be with JJ at the wheel,so gutted that our legend has now left the building, hope he picks himself up & goes on to be a top manager somewhere else if that is his calling, but TS needs to show some intent now on his managerial appointment, get this wrong this time & it’s not gonna be a happy ending,i so want TS’s vision to work but there is something that just is not sitting right in his decision making sometimes…this time more than any other time, let’s get this right…please prove us wrong, that you know what you are doing & show us that you can be right most of the time…🤞🏻JJ will always be a legend…0

You want a manager that has been involved with coaching/playing fairly recently. No dinosaurs.
I still firmly believe that if he had the tools he could have made a fist of it. I feel the same way about Jackson. I will probably feel the same about the next one as well. Let's not pretend that Adkins was some real left field appointment that was doomed from the start.5 -
Only just seen this news. Shocked he has gone, but I sort of understand why. TS has a huge decision to make and get right!!
I only hope the decision is made quickly so a new team can be built to push for promotion.0 -
It’s hard to be too angry at TS with his thinking, even if it seems naive. He did save this club from a bunch of crooks. Only someone slightly naive, to how football works, would have bought the club in the position it was in. The only hope is even Roland fluked it with Bowyer.1
-
Sorry don’t buy that the vast majority of the blame doesn’t lie with Adkins for the start, the team had no identity, no clear style of play, and poor standards2
-
The first thing to say is thanks to Jacko for all he has done for the club, and best wishes to him going forward. Like many others I thought he would have been given the summer to look to improve the playing staff and then the first 10 or so games next season to see how things were going, but clearly that is not the way TS see's it. I only hope he already has someone in mind to take over, and more importantly gives him the time and some cash to improve the current squad, as I don't see us threatening the top 6 let alone automatic promotion next season if he doesn't. It goes without saying that if he doesn't get this appointment right we are likely to bumbling around in League One for some time to come.2

It's not just the points, it's how we pressed, how we reacted to certain things and as we all saw the overall quality of our play this season.
I said I was on the fence with Jackson and had he managed to not get annihilated by Ipswich we might have made top half and I'd be feeling somewhat disappointed.
Personally think the clean house approach should be the one we take, but that means we will likely take even longer to get promoted.1 -

I could see Appleton or Hasselbaink as the replacements but I'd go for Powell personally.
Anyway, good luck Jacko a club legend and sad to see him go. I do think with the right backing in the Summer he could have been successful but a fresh start may be for the best.
I wouldn't attend a single match with that lazy, miserable, uncommitted sod in charge.
I suppose it would make sense in that he would match our current underperforming, effortless players.9 - Sponsored links:

His contact may have stated that 8th place meant an automatic contract extension, but that DOESN'T mean that if we failed to finish 8th that he'd automatically be fired either.
If we had finished the season playing good football and showing signs of progression on the pitch, I'm sure he would have been kept on.22 -

No wonder the team was so lackadaisical in that last game.....he probably knew he was out. A club legend and hopefully will be successful somewhere else. As long as its not Millwall or Palace0

But as you've said in this structure I don't see it improving. A message to TS,
Let the manager manage and support him with a budget until no longer warranted.
Owners can have opinions and questions on signings as long as isn't overriding the manager completely.
They are also allowed to say no to signings with baggage imo, like if we signed Lee Hughes for example, but that's as far as it goes.
