Hmmmm interesting , let’s see what conspiracy theories we can make out of this appointment

All part of the push for Cat 1 I imagine14

That looks like a very good appointment. Presumably part of the beefing up of our academy in readiness for Cat 1 status. Hope that's a good sign.10

Damn, there doesn't appear to be anything bad or cost cutting about this move.26

Don’t know a lot about academy football but Cambridge got knocked out in the last 16 of the FA Youth Cup (Same round as Charlton) this season. Beating Leeds and losing on penalties to Forest who are in the final. They must be doing something right there.5

I cannot see any negatives in that appointment, looks like a good move.2

Waiting for someone to say this must mean we are going in for Mark Bonner

Not sure what this means in terms of "big picture"
Some will say "Cambridge, who are they?" no doubt.
This seems to, IMHO, to be part of the ongoing development of the academy in preparation for Cat 1 status.
It also provides, IMHO, a succession plan for Steve Avory. I'm not sure how old he is but no one can go on for ever.4 -

Replacement for the outgoing head of academy business operations, though it sounds like it’s a slight restructure too given Pell is coming in to a different role.killerandflash said:All part of the push for Cat 1 I imagine
Pell’s arrival comes ahead of the departure of head of academy business operations Ruth Corry, who is set to take up a role at The FA working with England’s senior teams.

You heard that rumour too?CH4RLTON said:Waiting for someone to say this must mean we are going in for Mark Bonner

They don't seem like similar roles. Pell appears to be much more of a coach while Corry, who I have to save I wasn't aware of, was on the business admin side it seems.Scoham said:

This is such an obvious move.... Anyone can see that all this means is that TS has secretly placed his Son in charge of the Academy, this appointment is just a front to avoid anyone noticingCH4RLTON said:Hmmmm interesting , let’s see what conspiracy theories we can make out of this appointment

Can’t believe this appointment, I was told by various people in the know that TS was looking to sell?1

welcome Tom .. all the very best during your time at CAFC0

In fairness the club has to keep running regardless of any potential takeover. This doesn’t prove anything either way.000__Jaaaaay__000 said:Can’t believe this appointment, I was told by various people in the know that TS was looking to sell?1 -
I’ll start - Tom Pell is Harry Pell’s dad, Harry once waited at the same bus stop as Martin Sandgaard in Barnet.CH4RLTON said:Hmmmm interesting , let’s see what conspiracy theories we can make out of this appointment

My stepson's best mate plays for Cambridge U15's/16's at their academy, who are the business according to my boy. They regularly turn over London clubs in games (not sure what league they play in, but I guess some of these games are behind closed doors affairs too). I get the impression that they must be doing something right. He travels up from Kentish Town a few times a week to train and to play, and he loves it by the sound of things. They've definitely moved on from the days of John Beck! This sounds like a positive appointment.7

Ffs we should be getting Man City's academy head2

So nearly a superb surname. Just fell short did TomHenry Irving said:1 -
In the Valley Gold u16 tournament yesterday Cambridge lost in the final to Spurs.
Not bad considering the other teams were Man U, Villa, Chelsea, Fulham, Ipswich and us.11 -
Cant find fault with that appointment, not when you consider how Cambridge have done recently.
How old is Steve Avory?
Cant be getting any younger, so good to look to the future, before Steve thinks about retirement.1 -

I know two former work colleagues who now work at the Cambridge United Academy who speak very highly of Tom Pell. Both think it’s a great appointment for our academy15

Not sure how much input he had in the academy coaching at Cambs? This sounds more like an admin & operations role to me… not that that is not important!0
