Garrymanilow said:TootingRedArmy said:I asked a QPR mate what he thought of Warburton.......he sent several texts......made interesting reading...
"He's good. You'll pass it around from the back and play nice passing football. He improves players and talks eloquently. On the downside we have had several runs of 6/7 losses in a row and the reason he left was because he didn't seem to be able to motivate the players to grind out a result when you need to. His calm nature then gets a little repetitive and his lack of a plan B can frustrate. He has left us in a lot better place than we were. He likes keepers that can pass out from the back."
"We lost 60+ goals from BOS, Eze, Nakhi Wells and Jordan Hugill and should've got in the playoffs regardless. He's worked miracles really. Our recent form has been catastrophic - far far worse than the bottom club so we almost didn't have a choice. All our players got injured tailend of the season and with AFCON destroyed us. That and we're on our SEVENTH keeper of the season. Unbelievable. The whole thing has been incredibly depressing. At a guess 7 points out of the last 42?"
"Calendar year of 2021 we were automatic promotion form. His runs are great when you're winning. Definitely a good manager to grab if you can."
"Last 18 games: W3 D3 L12."I think it's more a case that we tend to imagine that it's only us who makes bad decisions, have injury troubles, go on bad runs, sign players who don't do well for us etc. etc., when the truth is this goes on up and down the game at every club. Some clubs suffer from a bit more (they tend to be near the bottom of the table), while others suffer a bit less (and tend to be near the top of the table), but I'm not sure it's always because of some grand plan, luck comes into it too, not that is all just luck either.Man City effed up a 2 goal cushion in a Champions League semi final with only injury time to play - that sounds like about the most "Charlton" thing possible (other than the Champions League bit, obviously, or the semi-final bit for that matter), but instead it happened to the richest club in the world while being managed by, arguably, the coach of his generation. Sometimes shit happens.6 -
The more I think about it, the more I want Michael Beale.3

Really can't see Warburton coming.
From what I've seen his stock is still pretty high and many think he was harshly treated by QPR.
No way he'd come to this nut house.1 -

"You said Gallen appears to have taken a back seat as negotiator".
Now you say you meant a back seat from recruitment.
Gallen is THE negotiator and also involved in the recruitment.
It isn't a case of "Now I say" as though I have changed my mind. I made the point that it appears sandgaard jnr is getting more involved in recruitment while Gallen has taken a step backwards & seems to be viewed as a negotiator more than anything going by quotes I've seen recently by Sandgaard Snr. It made sense to me as I rushed to post before going out, next time I'll try & take a little more care. Many apologies for confusing you.

League One is really their ceiling level - He's done a great job getting them back at this level.
But think if he stays, the best he can do with them is mid-table0 -

[PS ;-) doesn’t me I know something, sadly.]Exter must cover more miles on their travels than practically any other club I’m guessing. Apart from Torquay maybe?

on a separate note I played golf with him just before he left us and he was one of the nicest blokes I’ve met! He actually spoke to us as opposed to just standard cliched answers. He was open and honest which we’d all agree we want in a manager. Who knows if he’s got the necessary steel in him to manage some of the bigger characters we have in comparison to Exeter???
but he doesn’t tick enough boxes0 -

Don't think he's coming.
Will we offer competitive contracts to get the best in, that's my concern.
I think TS sees us as a scale up organisation, you try the cheap options first then spend if/when that fails. I'm not sure after trying the cheap that he'll be able to afford the spending required as even the cheap costs millions per season.0 - Sponsored links:

You can question how he has spent it but he hasn't tried to do it all on the cheap.

Who ever get the gig at Charlton, I hope they are luckier than Bows, Natkins, and JJ when it comes to injuries.
On the law of averages if we can sign fitter, players to start with then the 'curse' may disappear because we used to get players that played every match.
I say curse because Corey Gibbs played 100 games after leaving Cafc where he didn't play and Page has played 70 odd games in the last two seasons.
I don't blame the medical staff as different medical staff had the same thing happen.0 -

ozaddick said:paulg1947 said:I dont know many managers over there but Ange Postecoglou from Melbourne Australia took on Glasgow Celtic last year, and has now been voted Scottish manager of the year.
I have an uncanny feeling in my water that ex Palarce CB Tony Popovich now manging Melbourne Victory and has taken them on i think 13 matches undefeated (unfortuately being a City supporter) Is a bolter to watch in future, Remember the name
A more realistic choice would have to be Powell or Curbs There seems something wrong with a London team ,run by a manager with a Northern accent .Dont worry Ange and Poppa have accents similar to Sarf London
Popovich isn't in the same class, but a decent manager at A league level. Can't see TS's net casting that wide tbh.
Aussies sounding like us...?! 🤣🤣 I've been here nearly 30 years, and people wonder how I still speak with a London accent after all these years, and I tell them, I don't want to sound stupid!
And because man management is a very high prority for a good manager. Is it really that important what league they work in ?
I hate Victory, and feel that they will at least reach the final (Play offs)--- Poppa, has them running like a well oiled machine, built around a solid defense, like all successful teams are. With a high press.--- Top 3 finishings, with 3 ex Premier league players as managers
Melbourne City Managed by Paddy Kisnorbo
Melbourne Victory Managed by Tony Popovich
Western United Managed by John Allouisi
I am not saying that any of the above ,would realistically be in the running for Charlton, but i have a gut feeling that TP is only just starting as a manager ,and one to watch .He has gone 15 games without defeat now .If Graham Arnold gets booted out of the National team coaching job (likely if OZ fail to reach the W C finals, after 2 team play offs) Poppa may get his job.
If the final is between City and Victory (2-3 weeks time) i urge our scouting staff to check out 3 under 23s for Victory ,and 2-3 the same for City-- Connor Metcalf (City) is already off to Hearts--- Sorry its a bit off topic, but i'l nominate my choice any way
Wots Arry Kewell doin these days0 -
Do you think the CL pages record is going to be broken on this post??
What are the odds?0 -
It's been a week today since JJ got sacked, and TS should have made an appointment by now.
The fact that he hasn't shows that it was a petulant, unplanned, ill-thought out sacking.
