Whoops, I seem to have stumbled onto the TS thread.
Does anyone know where the new manager thread went?

As Thomas Sandgaard is the owner who will select the manager then not sure how we can speculate on who the new manager will be without some reference to TS ?
  • A new season is getting closer.
    Thank goodness for that.
Once blimmin Wimbledon Tennis passes we are on our way, the summer is boring.
Should have the fixtures soon, and any silly buggers cup draws completed.
    Pre season friendlies coming up.
At least the shenanigans has kept this summer interesting.
My hope for next season is for the communications department to make a better offer for Charlton TV subscribers, by that I mean reliability and comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage of all U18 games, whose highlights are to be metronomically posted no more than 48 hours after games, and the same reliable 48 hour deadline after U23 games.
I want to pay for football coverage, not behind the scenes with Oliver Dowden and the like.

I find it difficult to understand why the Swindon Chairman cannot shed any light on his own manager’s position for legal reason. He either employs the man or he does not. What legal reasons can hinder his own football club from making a comment on their own employees. Looking forward to any explanations!
I'm just hoping that it isn't to do with either side reneging on something previously agreed, for whatever reason, but I suspect it isn't, so I'm as mystified as you. Thomas insisting on non a non disclosure period maybe, but again, why? Who knows.

Could be Swindon are set to lose more than just Garner. The DoF has already resigned and rumours are that if Garner moves to Charlton or anywhere else he will bring two coaching staff with him. If negotiations re compensation are ongoing there might well be a non disclosure agreement in place. Who knows, it could be Swindon are sueing Charlton for an illegal approach. It could be for many reasons.
  • Plenty of people including quite a few on this site think football in England is broken. I’m one of them. The pyramid of money is ludicrously skewed. Footballers in the top two divisions at least get paid far too much. By that I mean average players not the very few elites and beyond their actual worth to the club. Agents bleed too much money out of the sport and things like loyalty and players hanging around for best part of their careers at one club are rare. The ordinary fan, certainly in the PL is being priced out of attending. Imagine being an Arsenal fan with two boys to take. Everything is about money, money money. The beautiful game in a holistic way has suffered. I think there have been people who have tried to buck the system in the way they run their clubs and tried to do things “their way” I think Thomas could well be one of those. Unfortunately the system and football establishment is stacked heavily against anyone daring to attempt something different. My guess is that eventually TS will be beaten into recognition that only conformity works and will at that point either succumb to the weight of pressure to conform or decide to sell up. I still love watching the 90 minutes but pretty much everything in football outside of that I’ve grown to detest. Every season I find something to make me fall out of love with football just a little bit more. No idea where my tipping point is.
Put quite simply, I couldn't agree more.

On the footballing side of operations, I know we need a manager/head coach and enough players to a build a promotion chasing squad, and I'm sure that's where the focus is at present, but do we also need a Director of Football too do you think?

It could be the reason Ben Chorley resigned from Swindon, to join Ben Garner and his assistants, assuming they're coming here, or do I remember seeing that dismissed as an unrelated coincidence by TS earlier in the week?

On the non footballing side, the last couple of appointments made since April, Brian Jokat as COO, and Ron Dangerfield as the new Club Secretary, do seem to have experience of sports/football administration so I assume they're working to try and improve things behind the scenes, if that's what's needed.

Mark Warburton would make a good director of Football at 59 with his experience of coaching, management, Negotiation on contracts, and the amount of contacts he has in the pro game over the last 28 years or so since giving up his lucrative business career in the city to follow his football dream.

The caveat, he needs to be on the same page with the new manager as well as TS, and that may well be the stumbling block as not only would the relationship between the 3 need to bond well but would the money be available to pay a "director of Football" and a manager/coach ?

Ha Ha,  but yes, as has been mentioned previously any announcement on a new manager cannot seemingly be made until Monday at the earliest - and who even believes it might be then?

This is because the intelligence suggests that TS is not flying in until Monday and it appears that the man wants to set his own agenda which might not be to the taste of someone else or indeed anyone else (cue people saying well he owns the Club he can do what he likes).

So, as we await developments it is reasonable in the interim perhaps to start to look on this thread at the myth, the man, the saviour? that is Thomas Sangagaard for clues as to what drives him and what he might look for in a new manager.

Of course,  all of the evidence/conjecture/speculations so far suggests Garner (now ex-Swindon?)

but TS is such a tease and he does like to provoke (e.g. his insistence to rename Charlton Women to Charlton Ladies against the wishes of, well just about everyone wasn't it - including the team themselves?).

So, can't really say with any certainty that he won't spin it out and, who knows, if he did go with Jonathan Acworth* then it wouldn't entirely be a surprise, to me anyway.

Seriously, I hope now that it's Garner and that TS just gets on with it but the showmanship that he takes great pleasure in exhibiting may yet backfire on him..... let's hope not because he undoubtedly saved the club, now he needs to get the next decisions right.....good luck and we await next week... it would be nice if we could get a manager in before the fixtures are announced in a few weeks!

Is it out of the question he goes to Millwall?

    What’s prompted that comment ?

Your sarcasm actually makes the underlining point though.

Most on here don't have the requisite insight, acumen and expertise to run a business in the manner of a Harvard Business School grad without expert assistance and guidance and would likely bumble through making material mistakes at the expense of the business' potential for success.

Similar to owning a football club with absolutely no experience or acumen for doing so without getting a good level of knowledge and experience on board to advise.
DM me if you're strugglin, Rodders.

    And that goes for everyone......

    What’s prompted that comment ?
Only that he left Swindon at the same time as 2 people left Millwall, maybe they are having a restructure?
  • More likely the compensation has been agreed but he hasn’t got it yet.
Money issues our end you mean  ??

No, just that the compo won’t have been paid before it’s even been announced and it’s not for them to announce it.

Will do mate, your consultancy fee is in the post! :-)
  • Just bumped into Thomas in Erith Market. Looked like he was buying a new leather jacket. Once he recognised me and gave me one of those pointed gun greetings with his thumb and two fingers, we had a good laugh about the spontaneous singing of GSTQ yesterday.

Asked him if he was going to announce the new manager today, he said he was going to but there is a street party organised for Harvey Gardens today and he didn’t think it was fair to the local residents to disrupt it with all the national press descending on The Valley. Only fair i suppose, there’s no doubting this is a man who cares.
Nice one, a daily update we can all trust.

How long can they sit on it for?  It has been a week already.

Wow, who got sacked without compensation?
  • Is football the only business where people can expect compensation if they are sacked for failing ?

No because they aren't actually sacked are they?

It quite simple really.  It's a contract for x amount of years and it has exit clauses on both sides.  If I "sack" you it costs me y and if you leave it will cost you z.

Senior management in local government, outsourced ICT providers and housing assocations all get compensation when they leave after ****ing up royally from my experience. I imagine if you're high enough up in most industries this happens

Humorous take on a contract,  As per discussions on here, Tommy might want our new manager to sign.   Don't take everything so literally.

I start work at an international kindergarten next September, on a 2 year contract, I can be fired for gross misconduct, anything else is a pay off.

Yup and in Britain its almost impossible to sack someone for being a bit shit or making a fuck up.
