Why though? What’s wrong with negotiating a deal to suit us as well as them, if I could drag the purchase of something expensive out to save a few quid I probably would, it’s not critical right now, I’ll admit I was nervous but I don’t see why haggling over compensation makes us incompetent.
Because we fucked up last season due to our inactivity all summer and lack of preparation. Jackson has been sacked nearly 5 weeks ago, seemingly without any sort of succession plan as we still have no manager on June 7th.

Since Jackson has left, he's gone on holiday, interviewed for / got a new job, and made his first signing.

Fleetwood sacked their manager May 4th, they have a new manager in place and have already made their first signing.
  • I think that's the consensus but how much there is to haggle over is unclear. These guys are unlikely to be on £100k pa, so the negotiation will probably be in the £10ks. Obviously you want the best deal, but relative to the football budget it's not going to be a huge difference.
Exactly what i was thinking, it's not as if we're trying to poach Klopp. These are league 2 coaching staff.
  • Perhaps he does, but it isn't up to him. The media doesn't work for him and doesn't take his instructions. Neither should it.
I never said the media should. It's just how I see his and his wife's take on things hence their denials. I'm sure if Cawley enjoyed the sort of relationship with TS that Cawley has had with some of our managers he would be privy to the full story but would have been asked not to release certain things at least until the time was right to do so. Or doesn't that ever happen?

  • Cawley quite clearly stated it was Garner who had agreed a deal. No mention of the backroom staff. This ties in with other snippets we’re hearing of Garner being at the training ground etc. Cawley wasn’t the only one to report this remember. Swindon press, TalkSport and The Athletic all did too.
    Not quite the case

  • This is fun so far - P249, still no confirmed manager, and a bit worried about the playing staff for next season, but no idea what’s happening there, so hopefully Bale and about 6 others incoming (Richarlison is looking for a move) to create the semblance of a mid table 3rd tier first XI.  But what is fun is watching the pro Sandgaard faction taking every opposite opinion or concern as an horrific attack on the family and making their contempt of any perceived slight very clear by…..moaning…..about the moaning.  This thread could outlast the manager, the season’s signings and even the unlikely event we get anywhere near the top 8, and could still be a source of circular moaning for years to come!

  • There’s a picture emerging … 🤔

I'll have a wager with you now that we finish above Fleetwood...

It will take about another billion posts to get to it though, proper impressionist stuff as well.

Very true, but it all adds up. TS had to agree compo with Swindon re Garner and then negotiate personal terms, which  would have been higher than they were at Swindon, before doing the same with the other two.
  • Twenty new pages since I last skimmed through this. I'm happy to see the Martin Sandgaard stuff seems to have gone elsewhere, and the debate seems to be around managerial appointments. I genuinely hope in twenty pages time, we have a confirmed appointment (frankly, Garner wasn't on my radar but I'm happy to see us start with him now) and let's hope for some squad rebuilding to follow.

And not the Swindon squad as a job lot  :D
  • Can someone more informed than me explain how a deal on compensation may work.

In my head I just see it as the classic

    ‘10,000’
    ’5,000’
    ’7,500’
    Deal

    Sort of situation.

But presume it’s more than just a numbers game if it takes this long.
If it's like The Apprentice, Thomas will be negotiating the price as the leader of Team Infinity, when another member of the team will interrupt him with a final number to claim credit for doing the deal.

Followed by Thomas moaning to the camera about Steve Gallen jumping in like that, and that he would have got a better deal by himself. And bringing it up again with Lord Sugar in the Boardroom slanging match the next day.

And a view from left field-- Quote- The Zynex mission is to improve the quality of patience- WTF. We all know its to rip the patience off in this 'Land of the Free'' Thank God for Universal Health Care, With all its problems ,100% better than the U S
The NHS buys equipment too you know, from the very same markets as the Americans. It’s not all altruism that makes the NHS run.

Who can forget the Private Finance Initiative?! And the paying £11k for every single use of the loaned MRI scanner in our hospitals?! It is a disaster.

most people probably do not believe this to be true a story made up to sell papers. Sadly it is not. i worked at the queen Elizabeth. i wanted to move a whiteboard. the company we would have to pay quoted 70 pounds to take it down and 150 pounds to put it up at the other end of the wall. I said NO.

Sadly with the PPI contracts theres actually a lot the NHS can get for free as part of the contract. Replacements when things break down, i say sadly because that aspect of the contract is rarely used and when things break down they are binned without making a claim. No one manages those contracts from the NHS side of things sadly not properly atleast.

Not exactly on topic I know but more factual then all the speculation flying around on this thread :)

  • You are a very naughty boy.

Can't disagree with this but Swindon's last game was 16 May (about 3 weeks ago) and Cawley broke the storey about Garner being agreed on 25 May (9 days later). Since then negotians seem to be with the two coaches and not the manager. If Cawley was right and it just hasn't been announced yet then there will be things going on behind the scenes with Garner involved.
  • Fuck me this club is tedious sometimes.

I get all that but you know full well we have a plan as at today, they’re obviously cross t’s and dotting i’s.  I get all the frustration and I’m with you, but I think some are getting too panicked, there’s so so much time to get this summer right, the players aren’t even in the building.

I’ll fully agree with you “if” we end up with a shit squad and are looking at deadbeats come midnight deadline day.  But for now I’m happy to see if he’s leant from last season.

I dunno mate, 7 & a half weeks until the first game of the season doesn’t seem like a lot of time when we need 7/8 players for the first xi + x amount as squad players.

Fair point but that’s where we’ll probably disagree.  Im not saying he will get it right I'm saying there is plenty of time and chances to get it right.

Doesn't take a semi competent league one club 5 weeks to appoint a manager, in the off season.
    Semi competent you say.
I think I see the problem.
