My great aunt used to live opposite before Woolwich Road was widened. I’ll be sad when it finally disappears, but looks like another nail in the coffin.0

It's a sad sight, it looks even worse from behind0

Am I right I’m thinking I read somewhere the other day that planning permission got turned down for here?0

The Victoria yesterday

So sad as I grew up directly opposite it, and helped em empty the barrels when it closed, but this tends to happen when an old pub sits on prime building plots, allegedly....5

Looks OK to me. I've lived in Manchester and Newcastle and definitely drunk in worse pubs. The Victoria even seems to have a roof.
I concede that the pool table is likely to have a bit of a slope, but stop whingeing.10 -
What’s going on there ?0

When was the Vic last open for business?
I certainly didn't go there again once we left the Valley in '85.
My last memory was playing Dexy's Midnight Runners on the jukebox and walking across that "House of Fun" floor feeling that I must have drunk twice as much as I actually had.

Proper old pub front. Really pleased they’re keeping it.0

Only went in there once before a game. Premiership era. Had a small tv on top of fruit machine showing hard core porn. Very strange as pub was packed and nobody seemed concerned. I left immediately by the way.14

I bet that's got some history.0 -
Dad told me he went out with the landlords daughter from the Lads of the Village pub when he was stationed at Woolwich barracks. He’s sill going strong (not with her) at 94 and just renewed his season ticket.

I used to love it in there before a match. With it's topsy-turvey floor it felt like walking into the Crooked House on Southend seafront. The last pub I know to sell cheese rolls from one of those plastic boxes at the back of the bar. They were shrink wrapped in cling film and sometimes quite tough to chew like they'd been there for days, but they always tasted divine.1

Before one premiership game
There was a wedding reception
I think something to do with Landlord
didn’t shut the pub
So we wished them well drunk a few
pints & helped them finish the buffet2 -
