That's changing history. Purrington was very very good when he came in, solid defensively and tidy with the ball. He wasn't a star player but was a steady full-back who did his job well on a regular basis. More than good enough to be back up IMO although I would certainly want someone different starting most games.000__Jaaaaay__000 said:

I'd like to have some competition at left back and not one starter and one backup. You hear former footballers talk all the time about how competition drives performances. Purrington was never competition he was just competent.1

On the whole Purrington has done pretty well for us, I have always seen him as a reliable player and never criticised or objected when he was selected.
Mixed feelings about him departing, by no means one of the players who have woefully let us down.

If you think that it is ridiculous that I hope for better coverage then fine, but what I think is happening is you are once again seizing on an opportunity to have a dig at me for no reason because I don’t continually worship the comms team but want them to give a better service.
Another person describes it as a vendetta, which it isn’t. It is a desire for better coverage, and by the way that includes better camera coverage and commentary when it falls short.
It is like certain people are above criticism, but Seth Plum deserves as much criticism as can be brewed up. I do not describe your posts as ridiculous, I have explained my point of view, if you think there is something wrong with the detail of what I write then comment on that rather than your continual baseless personal digs.

But perhaps that's not what we need in his position - if the gameplan dictates pacy wingbacks, as we've seen, that's not really Purrington's game.
Doesn't matter how good the player is, if he's not what we need in that position, he'll be let go.

I’m pleased BG is watching last season. It seems a good use of time before he actually gets to see everyone on the training field in person. If nothing else he should be able to recognise those still with us.
I’m excited for next season. It’s still early enough for new signings. I haven’t seen too many teams piling in the new recruits.

No that’s true enough and if I was in charge, I’d have Purrington and then another pacey more attacking LB as my two. I never actually said anything about how good he would be for us in the future, just that the previous poster was unfair. I don’t think keeping or releasing Purrington will determine how successful we are but I’d be surprised if we sign two better than him.Oggy Red said:

But perhaps that's not what we need in his position - if the gameplan dictates pacy wingbacks, as we've seen, that's not really Purrington's game.
Doesn't matter how good the player is, if he's not what we need in that position, he'll be let go.

We've had infinitely worse than Purrington over the last few years but if he's going then good luck and thanks for Wembley alone. As for BG watching games, you'd kind of hope he may have done a bit of this prior to his interview.4

I understand the Spanish trip will involve a lot of development players, players the club hopes to bring through.
At no time did I suggest Garner should not watch as many first team videos as he chooses, I was suggesting additional research which in the current circumstances might prove fruitful.4 -
You suggested he’d be better watching the youth games than first team ones. I’m with Covered End, it has to be the first team games in the first instance. Garner should get the opportunity to have a look at a few of the younger players in pre-season and needs to speak to the coaches about them. But it's the first team which has to come first, the U23's will step up when they're ready.seth plum said:

Purrington, if he is to leave, has served us very well since joining in the January of 2019. You always knew what you were going to get and I think in a league like this, that’s an underrated trait.
He showed he can have an attacking aspect to his game, not just when he scored at Wembley or when he scored at Blackburn or any other time, he regularly got forward far more than people gave him credit for and ought to have scored more. He popped up at the back post quite a bit at times and was a well rehearsed move, especially under Bowyer when things were going well.
What let him down at times was poor management and the fact that we didn’t have an attacking right back so he was at times brought into a 3 man defence or taken out the team to bring in someone like Maatsen. Additionally, he didn’t have a midfield in front of him who could carry the ball or get at the full back, until Millar came in, so a lot was put on his shoulders.
If he leaves, I wish him only the very best and will be fondly remembered for his contributions to a successful side who won promotion at an amazing day at the home of football.58 -
