    instead of who? .. anyway, I am not quite as ancient as you :) , by the time I was a Valley regular, Leary had gone to QPR
    Ah…..that would explain it.
    think I might have seen him once or twice alongside Dennis Edwards and perhaps Roy Matthews .. during the early 60s I was playing a lot of school sports and couldn't always get to the Valley or to many away games

    Sam Bartram even though I never saw him play. His reputation is all you need to know.
    Derek Hales. The absolute idol of my teenage years 
    Keith Peacock. Been around for as long as I have supported the club (ditto for Brian Kinsey)
    Clive Mendonca. As soon as we signed him I knew we meant business. He just lifted the club.
    Scott Parker. Drove us to new heights even though it all ended so sadly.

    I also feel guilty not including Curbs, SCP and JJ for all they have done for CAFC. They too are Charlton legends as far as I am concerned.

    Sam Bartram - Probably the single player most associated with Charlton 
    Chris Duffy - Only Charlton player to score  cup final winner.
    Keith Peacock - First player I ever saw score.
    Clive Mendonca - For the Wembley hat trick.
    Chris Powell - So many good memories. Loved that he always played with a smile.

    Surprised at the lack of Steve Gritt nominations.  Am I the only one?

    435 appearances across two spells totalling something like 17 years. Went on to become manager.

    Played every single position including keeper (I think but may be wrong).

    Interesting debate.

    I am trying to pick people who were successful at the club. I have gone for two men who were captains of our best teams.

    Curbs gets in for his management of the club although let's not forget he was a key member of the 1985/86 promotion team. I didn't pick Seed because he never played for us.

    I decided to select Fenton because he also had an influential role in Mike Bailey's backroom team in the 80/81 promotion team. Likewise Peacock who had a key role in the Curbs era although he never played in the top level for us.

    Sam Bartram. Obvious as an icon of the club.

    Benny Fenton. Captain of the club when we were successful in the 1950's. 

    Keith Peacock. 

    Alan Curbishley.

    Mark Kinsella. Iconic captain of the Curbs era.

    He did indeed play in goal. He was certainly a great stalwart for the club. But legend - no (imo).

    I think Costa’s an interesting choice and can understand why you’ve included him. For me Di Canio came to mind, though he only played for a very short time.

    Legends all and good to see so many names cropping up from ‘50s, my era.  If Chizz had said name your two top picks I would have gone for Sam obviously, but my number two would be Derek Ufton who deserves a statue surely.
