Garner’s Sending Off

When was the last time a manager (Home or Opposition) was sent off and went straight towards the tunnel?

Don’t they normally go straight up to the directors box through the West Stand?

Indeed it did. Can’t remember that happening the past though

Maybe that’s now in the rules?

Garner doesn't come across as someone who would lose his temper.

The ref must have been dreadful

That could well be now very true but who’s to know

He Mentioned afterwards that was his first sending off, which the way he’s been a few times this season does surprise me. Definitely up there with Parkinson and Bowyer for getting involved with officials from the technical area

My only contribution to this is to say that I f*ckin love Garner.
  • I love the man - showed passion and got the crowd going
  • Great connection between Garner and the crowd

My take on it is he went down the tunnel as he probably wasn’t thinking straight at the time

Where as I fall on the side of enjoying, and appreciating Garner’s reaction yesterday - I was surprised that he did it.

I really like him as a manager, and he often says the right things in interviews, but always thought he was slightly detached from the fan base - though that could just be me being influenced from something I read about him from Swindon fans.

I’m happy he seems to have bought into the club.

Told us he loved us on CharltonTV in post match interview

Was talking to some Ipswich fans on the way out, one of them was a prick but the other one said without me even mentioning it that the free kick that lead to the goals was never a free kick.

I must admit I thought the antics were a bit embarrassing at first but I do like that he's got this side of him. He seemed like a quiet, timid tactical manager at first but he's actually a bit of a nutter.
  • Garner's exit was quality.

Shouting at the ref. Absolutely furious. Then hyping up the crowd. Then shouting at the ref. Then just shouting "CMONNNN"

I was pumped. What a game, man.
  • His reaction definitely had an impact. Not sure we turn the game around without him acting like a madman

  • No point doing all the arm-waving and shouting in front of the West Stand so might as well mosey on down towards the Covered End and give it a go ...

I think the only ones in the ground who saw that as a free kick was the officials. Joke decision. Imo that 'ref' was too soon after the joker on tuesday night for Garner who probably couldnt believe, like the rest of us,that this bloke was worse

He said he watched the rest of the match on TV in the tunnel area not the directors box.

It worked for Lawrie Sanchez all those years ago.

I like to see a bit of passion. I can certainly understand it. The ref was awful and followed on from an awful one on Tuesday. It is going to overflow. Garner loses this job and he might not get another one.

Probably my favourite Charlton manager moment since Luzon did the touch line run after our 97th minute winner against Hull. It was amazing to see that kind of reaction from someone who is usually so diplomatic. There’s no doubt in my mind that it had an impact on the result.

Platonic man love for Ben Garner:
That rivals Henry V for motivation, plus Thelma and Louise or Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid for a dramatic exit.
  • Now suspended for....?

    1 match?
    Pizza cup?
    FA Cup?
    League Cup?
    Next league game?

(I'm still not clear what suspension Innis has, either)

Personally his gesticulating to the crowd brought a mixture of fright and laughter at the same time. It also reminded me of this:

Makes me wonder if he unleashes that kind of emotion in the dressing room or training ground sometimes. He normally seems a pretty level headed and logical kind of chap so giving both barrels sometimes would be more effective if done in moderation.
