Good on him. Certainly seems he is very happy at The Valley.

Yeah Jon! Some good news! Please please let this happen!
  • Good lad. A little bit of loyalty goes a long way to lifting spirits. I hope some of the others take note and think of the club and it's fans rather than their wallets. Here's a player who has held his own against the elite. I hope the fans will show their appreciation if he does stay and forgive him the occasional error.

I think if he does he could be made captain.

Not too sure about that Eltham...certainly a nice fella but he's too lay back a character I think to be a captain.

Division One should be his level.

When is he due a testimonial?

this is true, except perhaps that taking the responsibility of captain might transform him from Jon Fortuitous to Jon Fortitude ?
  • Forgive me for being sceptical but i just don't believe anything that a footballer says these days and i won't until he's actually signed a new contract. The only reason Fortune will stay is because no other club wants him.

So what you are saying is that "it's not true until it is on the OS"? : - )

Quite so. When he signs then great IMHO, until then we shall have to wait and see.
Could be a genuine desire to stay or his agent Sky Andrew floating his name around for other clubs to see.

Sorry that's ridiculous, he was for the most part decent in the Prem, looked good in the Championship, much better than Div 3. If he stays we've done well, he should be playing at the top end of the Championship and better than anyone we might sign.

Think thats harsh. He was a more than capable Prem defender when he had the right person around him.

However, I think it is Jon's own way of thinking that is keeping him at Charlton. Maybe he feels comfortable at the club where he has been all his life.

    Lack of ambition? Maybe.

How many times do we see a player sign a new contract only to be sold within a matter of months. It works for all parties - it gives security to the player but also means that the Club gets more for the player than they would had he been on a short term contract.

Agree with the point about his character but, whilst I'd be delighted to see him stay as we'll not sign anyone better, he is not the player that first broke into the team in the Premiership. Perhaps it is that same lack of personal drive that has seen his career stagnate rather after a promising start. Hopefully whoever is manager next year can get him focussed and driven again, becuase he has all the tools to be a very respectable defender he just lacks a little something mentally.

I'm not adverse to the idea of making him captain - the added responsibility might make him wake up a bit and get the best out of him. The most energetic player doesn't always make a good captain as I think the responsibilty can sometimes make them try too hard and negatively effect their performance.

I have also heard a rumour that he's been offered the captaincy as an incentive to re-sign.

The man is still recovering from a possible career threatening injury.

That is why he MIGHT sign a contract with us. Something coming into the coffers is better than nothing.

That said I've always liked Jon and feel that he is as committed to the shirt as any footballer is these days so I would be happy to see him stay.

Glad Fortune wants to stay. Hope he signs up. Good price on Hudson. Would be nice if we could come to some deal on Ward, getting rid of Hudsons wage might help.

Ward would be ideal but a little pricey for us now. Sodje would do me.

Well providing it is a decent CB I think things are moving in the right direction.

    FFS show some ambition.

Only joking, someone had to moan. He seems comfortable here, doesn't want to a move away. Plenty of people like that in 'real life', he's just one of the rare footballers like it. Had the chance to move to Stoke but turned it down and has been out of contract before but decided to stay.

Should be a good Championship defender (not saying top), was showing it until he got injured. Shame he's had injuries and hasn't had a full season in the team.

Will be ideal alongside an aggressive CB to attack the ball. Rio Ferdinand of League One ;-)
