    So at least £5m.

Any less and all the good work done on the Hudson deal is wiped out.

Yeah but they got £80 mill for some over rated Portugese fella so surely we'll get a wedge of that! In reality i reckon it'll be around the £200k mark.

Doubt the upfront would be even that. Can only hope there are lots of add ons.

At least it shows that there is some more quality coming thru the Academy.

Apart from a relatively small up front transaction fee, surely a deal with a young prospect is made up of all the usual add-ons and qualifications?

In which case, with a Man Utd tag to his career, we'll get paid in future for Man Utd 1st team appearances, International caps, and percentage of future transfer profit when he's sold on to Real Madrid .... ?

In which case, it could prove a fruitful and profitable insurance policy over the next few years for an ailing Third Division club.

lol, not much good if we don't get to see it though ! We're not running a soccer school !!

From what i understand about these things, due to his age Man U are not forced to compensate us in any way. But nonetheless, i'm led to believe a decent deal has been struck.

How much of the £80m is going to be used to pay off their £700m debt?

Cheer up Oggy, we'll be back in the Prem in a couple of years, stronger than ever.

Was only just saying hopefully he stays in the Hudson thread.

Shame because from what I've heard he'd have probably gone on to be our next big prospect. Potentially a future Prem player like Shelvey, rather than one of the future Football League players like a lot of them are.

Just hope it's a good deal for us.

better to have kids that Man Utd want than kids no one wants.

Also a nice little selling point for prospective players "come to Charlton and you might get scouted by Man U".

Sure would rather have kept him but whatever level we were at he was still likely to move on Old Trafford when given a chance.

Good thing is if we get money for international caps, it looks like he'll probably play for Ireland. Not sure if he's Irish/English, but if he is, there's much more chance of him getting capped for them.

Just found out there's only been vague rumours at the Man Utd end as well, same here really.

Apparently they don't have any outstanding centre backs coming through at the moment, so no surprise it looks like they want to bring in someone that might be a very good player.

Their Irish so I guess there's a very good chance they support United.

Shame to loose a talented youngster before we even get to see him kick a ball. Can't we have him back on loan for 10 years ?

Of some of their current fringe players plus a pre-season friendly.

    Sort it out Waggott

Would hope so, probably would have made the odd appearance for us next season if not this season. Would be nice if we at least had the option, rather than see him have a loan to a rival club.

What is the position with schoolboys (which he must be if he is only 15?

Presumably they can walk and there is not much we can do about it.

Wasn't that the whole problem with Judas Defoe?

Yes but I think the rules were changed soon after that...mainly due to the actions of Judas and Wet Spam as a matter of fact.

Actually, they're not. What they're saying is (without so much as a single quote) that he's on the "brink" of a deal. Basically, nothing has happened and they have no evidence for it.

This is going to happen 100%

The club have got a good deal out of it and Sean has got an oppurtunity to play for Manchester United. Good luck to him. He should never be thought of as a JUDAS etc. Playing for Manchester United is a once in a life-time oppurtunity.

Part of the deal involves a first option on him if he was ever to go on loan.

    No rubbish here, all fact.
