Cool, real class that. Whatever you think of Reza as a player, this is how we should always treat family.

At the start of the World Cup I was talking to an Iranian colleague about Reza (and Karim Bagheri). He asked what I thought about them. I said I barely remember Bagheri other than hearing about him from Persian friends growing up. With Reza, I said I felt he was really in the wrong place at the wrong time. He looked really good for Iran in the World Cup, but he wasn't suited to Championship football when he joined, and the club was in such disarray when he was here that he was never bedded in from a footballing perspective. 

If the club were in a different place, or even if he'd joined the Championship a few years later when it was less rough and ready and more technical, I think he could have been a decent player. He wasn't the only one in the Roland era who clearly had ability, but either wasn't suited to the league, the club, both, or wasn't developed properly. The early signings who thrived--Bauer, Sarr, JBG, were the ones who stuck around long enough to adapt to English football. 

Also, fair play to him for saying he wasn't proud of the sending off. I've only just seen that.

This really puts to bed the notion that Pearcey lost pace and mobility as he got older. He was always that flat footed and defended on his heels. Made a decent career out of it nonetheless. 

To be fair, and not to derail the thread but John Terry was never overly quick either.

Remember him saying as well that he learnt to anticipate where the ball went instead
