Actress Gina Lollobrigida, one of the biggest stars of European cinema in the 1950s and 60s, has died aged 95, Italian news agency Ansa has reported.

Often described as "the most beautiful woman in the world", her films included Crossed Swords, the Hunchback of Notre Dame and Beautiful But Dangerous.

    God, I was in love with her, that’s if I knew what love was back then as a nipper, gorgeous and sexy.

    Oh wow, that’s sad to hear.
    I had no idea she was that old.
    A household name for many years.

    She was absolutely gorgeous back in the day. Have no clue whether she was a good actress mind - never got that far.

    I always preferred her to Sophia Loren, simply because of her looks.  I suspect Loren was a better actor.  How shallow I was in my youth.

    They didn't get on!

    Her feud with Loren was coming on nicely. Egged on by her husband - the film producer Carlo Ponti - Loren had claimed she was "bustier" than Lollobrigida.

    Gina hit back, saying Sophia could play peasants but never ladies. "We are as different as a fine racehorse and a goat," she said.
