No soundbites from Gallen, Scott or Holden on our transfer window yet? Be interesting to see the spin they put on it?1

This gets retweeted excessively, the youngsters naively don’t read the article and get this circulated round their WhatsApp groups until it’s an official rumour.Cawley gets asked every day for a week if it’s true, he says it’s one he’s not heard about but it’s not to say it’s not true, to which the millennials and gen X also start to naively believe it’s a genuine rumour. It gets bounced around on the socials for a few more days and we even see a pound shop forum or the charlton Facebook page come up with a story on how it’s actually happening and will be announced on xx/02/2023.
The announcement date passes, and a few days later, bosh! He turns up on a league one rivals Twitter holding a shirt, my guess is someone with the calibre of Oxford, Wycombe Shrewsbury or if he’s lucky Barnsley, Plymouth or Bolton.
He scores on his debut and every one of the remaining 6k home crowd (officially 9k) stand on the concourse at half time telling their mates how we should’ve shed out the wages to get him, but the reality is, we were never in for him at any given point.
The End.
Good grief I’m depressed.0 -

So that Charlton Athletic transfer policy in full:
1. Offload deadwood recently signed on long term lucrative contracts.
2. Replace with deadwood signed on short term cheap contracts.
3. Err... that's it.17 -

I should think they're probably having a morning off, since after a long day they wouldn't have got home until after midnight.
If the Comms team (is there one still?) finished before them, then there's no interviews either.
No doubt interviews will be made and published in due course.

But we kept our key players such as Leaburn and Dobson and hopefully improved our 2 weakest areas, getting in Kane & Penney as full backs & Bonne in for Stockley.
Not one player that played on Saturday has left.
I'm not inclined to think that we will be relegated.
Assuming that disaster doesn't happen, the real point is who will buy the club (if anyone) and will they be able to move us forward?
The "deadwood" has been removed so a buyer with means is now well placed to do a Chrissy Powell/Varney summer window, but will we be well placed or will we be potless?
The rest such as we have NO players left is just noise.
We lost and were completely outclassed on Saturday.
Our best eleven are only mid table standard and we need better players, so we need to remove the worst players and bring in promotion standard players.
The starting point has to be getting rid of the worst players which we are doing.
The only exception being EOC, but tbh we would have been foolish to decline £350K, if Wrexham really did offer us that very generous amount.5 -

My main concern now is if no takeover happens we'll be left with Martin Sandgaard rebuilding our squad. That only ends one way.1

All ! so they can rebuild in the summer ,but ignoring the increased risk of relegation due to
A threadbare squad because of the lack of new better players comming in now .2 -

People putting their eggs into the basket of a 'summer reset to push us up the table' will be disappointed when it's just free transfers, loans and kids again.
The cycle continues.14 -

I doubt many are confident.
But even if it's Methven & co I believe their aim is to get us to The Championship and "sell/flip" us, so either way we need to get rid of the players that aren't good enough for a mid table L1 squad.2 -
I suspect that "hate speech" text number will be dialled a billion times from 2.30pm-5pm on Saturday. And not with the sort of complaints it hoped to attract...4

Fantastic transfer window.....
for the new Finance Director, wage bill slashed, fees received for O'Connell and Stockley, and two players in, one free, the other a cheap loan.
Great on the business side, terrible on the football side.7 -

Scenario A: They sat down and said "It doesn't matter if we finish 12th or 17th so let's ship a bundle of players out for a % of their wage to save few quid."
Or Scenario B: They don't have any money and need to cut the wage bill.2 -

If Methven slinks off with his golden handshake but Varney or A.N. Other steps in, we might, MIGHT have the funds to change things around.
At this stage I don't think there's many (if any) who are genuinely thinking that as it stands summer will see big money or lots of activity. But things may change by then.2 -

Or Scenario B: They don't have any money and need to cut the wage bill.
Scenario B - there aren't new owners yet and may not be for a while, so it's possibly not their call entirely.
But if I were TS or new owners I would understand the need to improve the squad dramatically in the summer and that will require a substantial amount of players moving on and being replaced by better.
The better players will cost money, so why waste perhaps £500K, to try harder to finish let's say 8th instead of let's say 14th?
He/they would lose let's say £500K and would have achieved nothing, other than we would need to get rid of more players in the summer than we do now, making the process more difficult.
I'm not saying I'm happy with what's going on, who would be, but we are where we are and we need to make sensible financial decisions.
We could have kept them all and sold Leaburn, but I think the sensible decision was to keep your assets and get rid of your "liabilities".
I'd much rather watch Leaburn, Dobson and Fraser rather than Kirk, DJ, Lavelle, McGrandles, McGillivray and Stockley.8 -
