The first female Speaker of the Houses of Commons Betty Boothroyd has died aged 93.
Before becoming speaker she served as Labour MP for West Bromwich West from 1974 to 2000.

I knew her in the 80's when she played a key role in bringing the Labour Party back to sanity.
As Speaker I don't feel anyone has matched up to her since although Lindsay Hoyle has the potential to.1 -
