    [cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]If his birthday is 5th December......then he's already a Charlton legend!

PS: Can't we play all our fixtures on 5th December. It's the one date we're guaranteed to win.......

lets hope he is 17 this coming December then, even more of a legend if so.

That would be good, but he's 24 this year, born in 85.

The new u18s this season will all be born in 92/93, so maybe one of them was born that day.

Some news from a French football journalist pal.

    Hi Ben,

Glad to hear some news from you my friend.

Lorient did not make a great season, but coach Christian Gourcuff, Yohann Gourcuff's father, has got great learning skills, and great choices in the game.

To be honest, I have not seen a lot of Lorient's game, so no great memoris of Bakary, except that friends from Lorient told me is smart, learns fast, and is really mature. He was taught at ASEC, the prestigious football academy in Ivory Coast (with Touré bros, kalou, bros, dindane, koné, etc...). So good fellow.

For "r.p', it means "Retour de prêt",which means the guy comes back from the club he has been lent.

Hope you and your family go well, and that you enjoy the summer, before enjoying Premier League.. in fews years. Peace.

    B

Another update on this, he has returned to us, is injured for one more month and the player himself has said he has been assured he can get a work permit. Also looks like he has 1 year on his contract and is happy to play for us.

    Translation of a recent interview
    Where Bakary play this season?

A Charlton in England. My loan is expired at Lorient.

Leaving the media very french championship for Charlton and, moreover, does not in the elite English you do not present a problem?

Until proven otherwise, I consider myself as a Charlton player. That I have no problem. French leaders have also reassured that they are able to find me a work permit. Play in English League 2 is not demeaning. In terms of reputation and competitiveness, the championship is not inferior to the championship french Ligue 1. Quite the contrary. Anyway, for me, the key is to find a club where I can play. A club that knows me and who will give me confidence. Because after my injury, I need to play to find the rhythm. Then, we'll see the next mercato.

The fact that Lorient is not the effort required to Charlton t'arracher to disappoint you?

It still surprises me even more that everyone was happy with me. Well, perhaps there is some at the club they do not want my head. But I do not make it a business. The most important thing for me is that I left Lorient head high. Now, if I should not stay there, it is God who will have wanted. I am not in the street. I have a year contract with Charlton and I am prepared to honor it. This is a good club and England is also a good country

Interesting, would be good if we can get a work permit for him - unearthing a decent young centre back from within would be a welcome tonic right now.

    Well dug out Scoham.

It sounds as though he is prepared for the change but someone ought to tell him we are no longer 'English League 2'. But he seems keen and in our woeful potless state another body in the building is a welcome addition.

The only possible fly in the ointment is the 'next mercato' comment - i.e. next transfer window.

Wasn't sure what that was. Makes sense now.

To be fair to him he probably doesn't yet know what the situation will be with a work permit, our finances etc.

If he can get a work permit though he could be a huge bonus and solve the problem of finding another centre back.

I wouldn't be surprised if we hear nothing and he ends up at another French club.

This sounds great. If he has been playing in the top division in France reguarly (even in a side that struggled) then he should be quality in League One. Fortune and Bakary at the back !!

Actually thought his comments seem quite encouraging. Seems to have the right attitude.

Anyone know what his best position is ?

FM says he is a centre back, but comfortable at right or left back and he could cover as a defensive midfielder.

From his ratings and positions he actually looks similar to Semedo, decent all round as a defensive player without being outstanding in any area.

I think we should shoot him. Worked for Sam last night.

If he can play CB, L or RB and DM then that proves it.

He's hungry, versatile and has something to prove. Curbs is coming back.

How come his return (and his encouraging comments) haven't been put up on the OS ? This would be a great piece of news and would improve the happiness of fans who are very despondent at the moment.

agreed, unless of course he isn't returning or maybe we won't put a story up until he gets a work permit.

Maybe he's not yet got a work permit or we don't yet know if we're keeping him. Or maybe we're not keeping him and finding him a new club.

True, would be good as he seems like he would be an asset.

Maybe it's not as straightforward as suggested. Main issue would be the UK work permits.

It's not clear if Bakary or any of the others are able to get one or not. Till then they can't play for us so we'd have to loan them out again.

Are we all being encouraged about a short quote from a player we've not seen? Don't get me wrong, hope it all works out, but we all gripe about wasteful signings that we've made based on limited scouting, then suddenly swing the other way based on the flimsiest of evidence.

Seems unlikely now. Surely we wouldn't be talking about needing to bring in more defenders if he could play for us, and we'd have at least got him in for training by now?

Just curious but started looking around and found that we actually paid £311,500 for soro to asec and then subsequently gave him away to FC Lorient who in turn got rid to a french ligue 2 side but still has a £450,000 value!
    Weird!

Pretty sure he went on loan to Germinal Beerschot and Lorient. Those sort of sites aren't always reliable, we were paying ASEC a fee I think for the link, so not sure if we paid a fee for each player.

We'll probably never know the details of the deals with ASEC and other clubs though.
  • Does anyone actually know if we still hold any sort of interest in any of the players from the Ivory Coast or has the entire thing fallen by the wayside?

The deal with ASEC definitely ended, not sure if some of the players are on loan from us or have permanently signed for new clubs.

they stitched us up with a player, who signed for standard liege which conflicted with the agreement we had with them. it was all up in the air when i left in a stand off and letters/faxes going back and forth. i used to use babelfish to translate the long 4 page french emails so perhaps thats why*

Sounds like ASEC saw what a good thing we were on to here and then stitched us up to get more money. Thanks for that

i don't think we've let them get away with it, but i don't know the outcome. I used to speak to our lawyers to translate and transcribe the documentation but as of june when it was all going on i have no idea. they were dragging their heels but I know that the club wouldn't have just given up even though we had a lot going on last summer.

we had a good relationship with them up until about 2 years ago. then it all went wrong.
