Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of highly-rated midfielder Terry Taylor from Burton Albion for an undisclosed fee.

The promising 22-year-old, who attracted summer interest from a number of Championship clubs, has signed a three-year contract with the Addicks.

He becomes Charlton’s sixth summer signing following the arrivals of Harry Isted, Lloyd Jones, Alfie May, Panutche Camará and Tayo Edun.

Taylor has represented Scotland at U17 and U18 level, captained Wales at U21 level and was named alongside Miles Leaburn in the Not The Top 20 podcast's prestigious 'EFL 21 Under 21' in January of this year.

After putting pen to paper, he said: “It feels amazing. Having a look at the ground, meeting everyone at the training ground, it feels really good so I can’t wait to get going. I think the big thing that sticks out to me was the ambition, his [Dean Holden's] plan and how he plans to execute it this season and just where the club is headed, in the general direction, I think there’s a really good feel to it."

Manager Dean Holden is excited at the prospect of working with Taylor. He explained: “Terry is a fantastic young talent and we’re really pleased he has chosen to join Charlton with plenty of interest from other clubs. He’s got a good eye for a pass and is an excellent set-piece taker. He is really good off the ball in terms of his mobility around the pitch, his pressing and his ability to win the ball back. I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Taylor’s arrival follows the addition of Edun on Tuesday. Technical Director Andy Scott added: “The signing of Terry is another example of the club’s recruitment strategy this summer - ambitious, young, talented players who want to come and play for Charlton and be successful. He is a player we identified with real potential and excellent character. He has impressed playing plenty of games in League One and, given his age and ability, has the potential to develop into a Championship player.”

Born in Irvine, Scotland, Taylor joined Aberdeen in 2009 and played much of his youth football with the Addicks' next pre-season opponents before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2017.

He made his first-team debut for Wolves against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup in October 2019. He joined Grimsby Town on loan in 2020, playing 16 games for the League Two outfit. The midfielder signed for Burton in 2021 where he impressed, playing 65 games for the club.

I don't know anything much about the player but it sounds like a good one. A highly-rated 22 year old on a 3 year contract as well, that sounds like normal club stuff. Feels like something of a Dale Stephens type signing, picking up a player from a smaller club at the right time and hopefully getting the most out of him as a result.
I find these banter announcement videos agonising though, make it stop.

£150k or about 2 and half hours of Mbappe’s time in Saudi.

£150k feels like an absolute bargain. Could we even set up with a diamond in midfield?

Looking into him in more depth, slightly worried that he missed the second half of the season with an injury but very impressed that he still managed to look good in a midfield where he was alongside Deji Oshilaja

Proper player, big and strong with great technical ability. Some serious competition in our midfield now. For me he probably starts when fit based on the quality of his set pieces.

I think this might be what happens until Leaburn is fit. Fraser can play the more attacking role with Camara and Taylor as your traditional CM's. Then when Leaburn is fit May plays in a slightly more advanced Fraser role and the Fraser competes with Taylor and Camara.

Watching player's like Inniss, Morgan, Clare and Bonne was so depressing.
We were never going to get promoted with that lot.
Hopefully the signings we have made so far are a major improvement on what we had last season.
    Feeling quite optimistic.

This is the video mentioned in the OS article. Promising if the Not the Top 20 folk rate him.

    Cawley says 150k roughly.

Wonder if they fancy McGrandles for 150k 👀

They were squad players at best.
Trouble was we had far too many squad players playing regularly in the 1st team.
We had the quantity but not enough quality.
