Graeme Murty will sign a professional contract at Southampton this week.

The 34-year-old former Royals captain has been training with the team since the start of pre-season after he was released from Reading.

New boss and former manager at Madejski Stadium Alan Pardew is likely to offer the fans' favourite a one-year deal at St Mary's.

Looks like we have missed out on a good class player!

I reckon Parky knows Murty better than anyone and if he thinks Richardson’s a better option then I think I’d trust him on this one.

Parky is one of Murty's best mates and PP played in his testimonial last week. I am sure if he had wanted him he would have got him. I would have thought his views are that murty is a class back up right back but we need a first choice with Solly as back up.

I wouldn't say we've missed out, Richardson looks a good player and so does Solly. Just a shame Yassin will leave.

[cite]Posted By: The Red Robin[/cite]Not really, Richardson looks a good player

    agree.

Murty would have been good as a back up and a good pro in the dressing room but we have better, younger players IMHO.
  • liked the look of Richardson on Saturday so we wouldn't want Murty anyway IMO

Would rather have richardson at right back than murty, he turns like a 358.

Couldn't agree more. If Parky wanted him we'd have got him.

Murty was good but hopefully Richardson and Solly will prove better long term prospects. If we had been without a right back I'd have been happy to see him but no point now.

Will be a great signing at this level for us.

Saints why are you here? Ain't you got enough to worry about? Dumbass manager, minus points, old crock signings, at least two seasons from playing pompey as they sink to join you and about £10k in diesel to get to away games this year.

Murty on paper is a decent player, at this level.

He will however, spend the majority of his time injured.

Billionaire owner aswell... You forgot that one.

He has impressed during his trial, I will be happy with him for a free signing.

Good role model and cannot fault his attitude when fit.

The question is will he stay fit? He didn't with us but then we specialise in longterm injured players!

Murty was quite good (but as said not too quick), but I like what I've seen from Richardson so far, and Murty is much more likely to have injury problems and might only give him a season. Should hopefully get more out of Richardson.

Dailly should be another 'good pro' as they say, like Murty, and he can probably get away with a lack of pace at centre back much more than Murty could at right back.

I don't see the funny side about someone suffering ligament damange. Especially a decent pro like Murty.

He had been soild for us in every game he had played and one unlucky moment last night could leave him out for months - who knows, he may even call it a day and end his career.

Saints, I think you have a hankering to be a Charlton fan, you spend that much time on here. How things looking from your end of the table? I can understand why you would want to join us.
As you matelots say " All aboard that's coming aboard."

I'm on many different fan forums.

So I guess I want to be a Forest, Charton, Bristol Rovers, Leicester City, Derby, Saints and Celtic fan.

    Exciting times for me.

Don't worry, we were all looking for new teams when pardew was our boss too. We understand your pain only too well and you are welcome to seek refuge here.
  • Shame about Murty, good, honest pro that always gave 100% for us when he was on loan.

I was sad we did not sign him up permanently in the summer but as a 100% player not scared to go in for a tackle and towards the end of his career I guess injurys like this were likely and Parky has more common sense than Pardew as we all know.

Think you have mis-understood Saints fan, reading the thread from start to finish everyone said they would have loved to sign him, but he was bound to get injured & low & behold......well he does in the first couple of weeks of the season.

If Kinsella goes to Col U we should get murts into the backroom staff if it is career ending which I suspect it is as he had the same problem last year, thats only an if but I hope its not.

I think you'll find I was laughing at the situation Pardew has got himself into rather than Murty getting injured. No need to get your knickers in a twist!
