Let's say a takeover is completed in a day or two, with a bit of new money but not bucketloads and AC is not available.

Back. What else are you going to do a week before the season starts.
Also, note how many of the new player interviews on the OS include comments about what an excellent manager he is? Dailly is the latest, and he has seen enough to know I expect.
I know we got relegated but let's see what he does when he has a full season (and pre-season) rather than half a season and some other bloke's signings. Frankly, at this stage in the game, I don't see what choice we have.0 -
Even I, one of his greatest detractors, would not consider it sensible to do so now unless a new man was already lined up and came in immediately. In the long term I don't think he is up to the job so I'd say sack him.0

Maybe they're just saying that to get picked! I'd back him though. Think he's done a good job over pre-season and I thought they should've sacked him last season.0 -
We are where we are and need some stability, he seems to be making the right noises, without an obvious replacement candidate we could go from the "frying pan into the fire" so keep. i suspect that he has been told his job is safe .. for now. On borrowed time though, needs a decent start to the season.0

depends how much money is on the table, and how close to the transfer window closing, if it was next week and a high profile manager was in the offing backed with 20-30m in cash for players, I would sack - assuming the new boy wanted his own staff.0

Agree with Kap.
He's gradually rebuilding the team with decent solid signings with character, added to keeping the best of the rest.
The jobs not finished, he's doing it with an empty pot, but it is his own team.
Despite the shortcomings up front, we are at last looking like a team in the true sense of the meaning.
And the players seem up for it.
He'll probably be sacked then. ;o)0 -
He'd have to be backed for now as it's too close to the start of the season. Give him until at least 2 months in to see what sort of start we make. If it's decent keep him, if it's dreadful there will be an inevitable sacking.0

I dont think there is any doubt now who the manager is for the coming season, so lets back the bloke and see how he gets on...its realistically too late to change right now anyway......a few wins and we might be singing his name....a few losses and......oh well, lets stay positive.....Come on Charlton, lets show some heart and spirit!!!!0

We've been on a downward slope for a while now. I wonder if we keep on with what we had, how we can be surprised when we keep on getting what we've always got.
I just don't know. A number of poor results last year were entirely down to his inept, cautious tactics and selections, but generally, he seemed to improve the moral and fitness. It's difficult. Not that I think there'll be a takeover, and if there is I don't think there'll be money anyway, so I might not tax my brain with it...0 -
I say back him, say he has a clean slate- his slate.
It is usually counter productive to give a manager strict deadlines (eg. top 6 by end September or you are sacked) ......... nonetheless make it clear that we expect a promotion challenge and that languishing below 10th will not be acceptable.0 -

Let's not talk about having money to spend - we have been here before and when it all goes nipples north we all end up depressed. So, let's assume any takeover will be unsuccessful and there really is no choice. Parky stays.
Whatever happens, I think that giving him a chance may not be a bad thing anyway. The season is almost upon us and the disruption would just be too great.0 -

If parky doesn't achieve 18-20 points from the first ten games i say 'sack'. have to start the season with him now.0 -
Parkinson has got his own professional pride.
I believe he'll know that if he's able to keep his best players and add judiciously to the squad, then nothing less than a play off place will do.
And I can't see that any of our current 1st team want to spend more than a season in the Third Division.

While agreeing with LA to a certain extent, we are days from the start of the season, with his preferrred line up being 4-5-1 and three of our strikers touted for moves away from the Valley. Hopefully he has a plan up his sleeve, if and when the takeover oges through/tits-up.
If things don't go well and we struggle, how long do we give him on the basis that the board-room battle disrupted his choice of squad, or do we say he should have got on with what he had?0 -
