I wasn’t going to put this section in but when I saw a comment on my Twitter post about Conor McGrandles being almost undroppable in the 21/22 season despite some costly mistakes, I had to consider how he leaned towards certain players".
Joe Briley AllLincoln article "Michael Appleton-Analysis" 9th Sept
Seems he had his favourites who he chose when better players were available- one other we kn ow- jack Payne also got frozen out according to this account.

Gives an idea on what Charlton supporters might expect. If Appleton’s the same it’s a bit of a worry, unless he has a proper tactician in the dugout alongside him. Surely tactics is half of the job?
He's just not seemingly the type who is going to be doing stuff like inverted full backs or false 9s or whatever. It will more likely be a "standard" 4-3-3 or 5-3-2 or whatever shape he goes with.
Which is okay by me.0 -

If he can stop the basic errors, give us a better defensive shape and improve set pieces that's already a big points improvement.
Highest scorers of any side outside the top 6 last year. 11th highest so far despite sitting 17th, and scored 3 in the cup last week and still lost.
If he can improve the defence by only 25%, we will be play off contenders in my opinion.5 -

After reading the comments of many CL members, Michael Appleton is looked upon as Vanilla but vanilla is only a Chocolate flake away from being a 99 which would be a treat.
The cafc expectation bar is set so low that a limbo dancer would struggle to wriggle under.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step; Cafc issue is that the step is normally in the wrong direction.

If the one man and his sheep sing;
"We are effing shit" at our next home game or worse, the next game against Stevenage, then we really are drowning not waving in a ocean of negativity.
Wow, what a great collection of profound statements....well put✅🤔1 -

I can only see one outcome here. We've made the change required that will see us promoted to the Championship as champions of L1.6

And to be champions usually requires between 94 and 100 points.
About another 88 points to win.
Starting with the vital three points away at Stevenage next Saturday.4 -
Saturday and no game.
Perfect time to announce his back room staff so we can trash/ praise them. Come on comms, you know it makes sense.0 - Sponsored links:

Of course if he brings in David Kerslake there would be a very obscure ex player link.
Iirc he was on trial following his release from Spurs and was an unused sub in a league game. The next week he choose to sign for Ipswich.0 -

The clutter of our club is complex and embarrassing and depressing, so I have decided it would be good to focus on what the latest regime delivers, and I want them to deliver automatic promotion.
I am sneered at for that by some, like when I say we should win the next eight games in a row. But those games won would create a platform for automatic promotion before it is simply too late once again.
At the moment the regime is miles away from getting us automatic promotion, for that reason what they have done so far deserves scrutiny and where appropriate criticism.Additionally when they go on and on about young player development it suggests they have not been developing fine already, but they have haven’t they? The young player manoeuvre also acts as a way of distracting fans from the real prize, which I repeat is automatic promotion.
This lot decided for some mysterious and suspicious reason to acquire Charlton Athletic Football Club. Billionaires no less so we are led to believe, so my apparent tenacity is to see if our experts backed by billions can deliver the promotion we all want.
Two league wins and four defeats so far suggests to me they are failing. A win at Stevenage would represent one step on the road to success.13 -
Don't agree that there is any implied critism of player development/academy. In fact, the reverse as they keep banging on about it being what the Club does best, more a USP and invaluable as a pathway to profit, one for them to cash in on!

The higher the league the better the fee.
We need promotion0 -
We must win the next 16 games to create a platform for automatic promotion.
If we don't, we can blame some billionaires. I mean I don't know any of them, but I'll blame them anyway.
And we must sack managers after each defeat.
I'm a visionary, and if you don't have the same expectations, you must be fans happy with mediocrity.

I'm glad that at last we have someone with your clear vision and perfectly reasonable expectations posting on here.
Some apologists for the sham owners would be happy with a mere 8 wins in a row. That sort of defeatist attitude is what got us where we are now.15 -

They can't make any sort of profit on their investment without at least 1 promotion.
I want them to make a "profit" (i.e. sell at the optimum value) on progressive youngsters (whom we won't be able to keep anyway) provided it means there's money available to further strengthen the squad.
That's how we did it the years running up to the 1998 promotion (Minto, Bowyer et al) and, since there's no logical reason for the owners paying £10m+ for CAFC unless it's to achieve at least 1 promotion, I have to assume they're not insane and intend to follow this path.
It's a good path and the only realistic one that offers us a chance of success and them a decent return on their investment.2 - Sponsored links:

My guess and hope is that this season is going to be a very slow burn and steady if not spectacular climb up the league table. Again I think and hope that with ten games remaining we’ll be in with a very decent shout at attaining sixth place. I have a feeling that we might just do it.8

Apologies for posting a bit late , but been on holiday past 10 days, Frankly I was rather dismayed at the appointment of Appleton, personally I thought it was some kind of joke!. Of course being Charlton you can never be too sure!.
Having had a few days to reflect on the latest 'odd choice' I am still no more convinced of him , or the direction of the new ownership model, but yes it is early days, so the 'half full' light weight fans like myself will probably be proven wrong..... I hope so, I really do.
Not that these owners will give a jot about 'stay away' types like myself, but there do seem to be rather a lot of us, who seem to have developed quite a skill set in making excuses for not attending.!
One game I attended last year, despite offers of free tickets, and generous offers by friends and family.
Of course, it is a personal choice, although in the past I felt compelled to come, bad weather, distance did not bother me.
I will return, a 60 year habit is hard to break, and I lack the discipline, and will give this manager another chance, along with the last previous heap of managers.
Bought both my newest Grandchildren the new kits last month from the club shop, so I guess not all hope is gone..... but Jesus give us a break ! sort out the defence, and win some games, the fan's deserve a decent season.12 -
Good to see you posting @kenfrombexley.6

I probably occupy one extremity of hope and others are more sanguine.
As for an argument, have you noticed that I don’t respond to the personal digs in kind?
If I wanted an argument I would.2 -
I'd love for us to go up this season, but don't think that it will happen.
I'm willing to pledge £50 to a charity (could be the Upbeats) that will be donated if promotion is achieved.
Anyone else willing to offer the same Money-where-your-mouth-is pledge?
Come on, it's a win win. 😁

My thoughts on Appledon taking the hot seat, fair warning, I am not in favour and if you're looking for a positive video this won't be it.
