Definitely. He’s doing all this with someone else’s money. He got gifted a share, which was worthless when he got it , and if he fails, it’s still worthless. While every club will work slightly differently, this is the general jist of the Technical Director / Head Coach dynamic... Scott is ultimately responsible for the hiring and firing of coaches, medical and other support staff that are there to help the players perform to the best of their ability. Perhaps in the old days a new manager gets to make those decisions without input from elsewhere but that's not modern football anymore.
It's logical that Appleton's former coaches are in the frame but it also makes sense that the search for an assistant coach shouldn't be treated any different in making sure they're the right fit.
We don't have any of the details of the intricate workings of AS/MA's early relationship but one of the many possible scenarios is that while Appleton worked with Kerslake and O'Donnell at his last two clubs, we have our own highly regarded coach already in Anthony Hayes. My understanding is that O'Donnell in particular was tasked with working with the younger players etc. What separates him / makes him better for Charlton than AH for instance?

I just think as a fanbase we need to show a bit more patience (hard I know). It has been a tough start for the ownership so far, and hopefully Andy Scott, can do the business in his technical role.

The season started way before this coming Saturday, and Leneghan, Scott, Rodwell, Warrick and Methven have shaped what has happened so far.
What has happened has been mostly dreary depressing crap results.The season has already got well under way, but the glimmer of hope is that by winning every home game, four of the remaining away games, and drawing the rest of the away games we can recover from when the season really started.Points won in August have the same mathematical value as points won in April.
If Appleton has been given a week to get a win at Stevenage, then the Shamocracy should’ve got their act together by the start of the season seeing as how they have been sniffing around (and threatening court action) since January. Lots of weeks.
I understand there has been a call for patience, and realism. I think we the fans have been plenty patient, and can see the reality so we have done our bit, now it is up to the club to win.
A win at Stevenage is simply a first step under Appleton, not a first step for the fans or for the Shamocracy, but a win gives us a bit of hope to carry us through to the Wycombe home game.3 -
I’m not sure how you can say MA hasn’t been dealt a full hand. He’s got a full squad with depth. Holden never had that but Appleton has. For me Appleton has to be in the best 6 league teams from this point onwards as a minimum. If we miss out on the play offs because of our poor start then I won’t blame him but from now on we should be performing at top 6 level or he has not done well enough with this squadsupaclive said:

Scratching the surface, it appears as though there is a disconnect between what the major investors have been sold versus the reality and what the 4 members of the SMT are working with day to day. Some of it is not their fault, inheriting the likes of Kirk and Aneke on long contracts and big money, and for me, signing the likes of Tayo, May and Camara were big ticks, I think they’re good players and can help us do well. On the flip side, Holden their man in Jan, was found out, the tail end of the window, although it had activity, that activity is perhaps different to what we need to get out this division, time will tell
You are quite right that what you and others shared is no different to what Airman shared in the analogue years prior to social media through VOTV. I think the difference being, whether or not you like/agree with Airman, he’s built up a 40 year plus reputation based on his work for both the club and a voice of the fans, is trustworthy, with the club’s best interests at heart, and has a working knowledge of Charlton Athletic and what it would take to run the club properly. It’s not that you, or any of the others who shared info in the run up to the takeover, or your contacts are untrustworthy, but speaking candidly, the faces of our most recent takeover, could be considered untrustworthy.It’s done now, and yours and Michael Appleton’s season starts Saturday, but for the rest of us, the season began after the takeover. The grace period should still apply, happy to eat humble pie if we end up having a competitive season, and we should get behind Appleton, but the fans, quite rightly are watching very closely23 -
I agree with you, and to be honest, I am still confident this ownership will be good for Charlton, and that isn't just a line from them, that is my personal opinion. What is the saying 'Rome wasn't built in a day' Most new ownerships take a bit of time to bed in, City didn't get instant success, Chelsea neither.. I respect Rick, and as you said he worked hard to build his reputation, my point was being, leaks have always happened, and people build different relationships.! Things are just more accessible now.

We'd be closer than we currently are for sure. And to be fair there's often teams that start slow and finish strong and teams that rocket out then fall off over the season. The top 6 right now won't necessarily be the top 6 at season's end.supaclive said:

That said I'm not expecting us to actually BE top 6 this season. And that absolutely would/will be a failure caused by weak management at the very top.2 -

For me, in the context of league 1, Appleton has been dealt a full hand. He has injuries but so do all clubs. Holden wasn’t dealt a full hand this season because he had injuries and none of the new players were either here or fully fit.
In my opinion, under a good manager/head coach, this squad should be in the top 6 between now and the rest of the season. Hopefully it’s not too late to add that extra bit needed on top top catch up.
It’s certainly a very tough first assignment away at top of the table though. Maybe it’s the challenge that the players need.4 -
Why would any of the new players be fully fit since the last game? They won't have had time to get fully fit - which would include match fitness -seeing as there hasn't been any matches?

It's easier to be there if we're there or thereabouts all season but being 17th in September doesn't close any doors.
Having Miles back is better obviously, miles better, we've a chance now of outscoring some of the opposition. Sadly, Miles's return does very little for the over 50's pub team quality of the central defenders.

For me Appleton has to be in the best 6 league teams from this point onwards as a minimum. I haven't been on here much recently, but I was reading about Charlie speaking to someone on LinkedIn and people having a pop at him.. With social media now, people are so easily reachable, and people are happy to engage! But it is no different to what it has been for years and years, only difference is, it is seen in more places such and forums, whatsapps, social media.. There has always been leaks, but you would only hear about it on clubcall, fanzines and local newspapers.
VOTV intel would have always been from leaks and discussions Airman would have had.. So would that have made them people unprofessional then?
For me our season Starts this Saturday, fresh slate for all and time to get behind them, and see if we can turn this season around!
