The Takeover Thread v3.0 - DONE! - Methven interview in the Telegraph (p55)

I'd love to know why this quartet having watched us and the shower we put out for 6 months prior thought going into the season with more of the same was going to be a recipe for success.
Maybe the next takeover will finally be a good one...7 -
AFKABartram said:Will be interesting to learn the dynamics of our huge ownership consortium. Americans culturally have a pretty cold attitude to hiring / firing head coaches, yet Holden was Methven & Rodwell’s man that they wanted in and who they we’re probably waxing lyrical about in their sales pitches. If the major American investors are showing any sort of interest in how the club is doing (no evidence of that yet) I’d expect pressure being put on Charlie Boy & Rodwell
This is more a Dragons den approach imo.
I reckon they thought Methvens pitch was pretty wild but the fact he was willing to put his own dough up made them throw a few quid his way ,albeit with little risk to themselves.
I guess we'll see soon enough. Things are a lot worse than Methven painted no doubt.
I think if it was me, I'd be less inclined to put anymore money in than I was 4 weeks ago!0 -
We beat Sunderland twice at Wembley. You know what they say about running over Black Cats.1

Methven is an Oxford United fan, so I doubt he feels the same as us this evening.0

If Methven has put any sort of hard cash in I’d be surprised if it’s not remunerated by salary within a year or two .
It’ll be a free bet at worse for him .
no way he’s dropped anything over £100k cash without a salary coming back his way. It’ll be a commission paid in the form of part ownership .
He’s not that stupid , I mean he’s sold sand to the Arabs ffs10 -
There’s a wise fella called manair brown who pointed out the substance of this clownership saying it was more of the same but no he was duly shouted down by the now familiar welcoming Charlton fellatio crew committee who tug off and big up whatever circus comes in town .
load of wank15 -
Fellatio and wank crew? My Sinday's just taken a left turn!0

I had a good chat with Jim Rodwell and Paul Elliot on the train yesterday.
I can’t remember everything they told me but the main reason why bought Charlton because of the location and the academy. I also asked them about The Valley and Sparrows lane and they’re continuing to discuss with Roland about arrangements.
I also mentioned about the fact we had Curbs for 15 years and we not had a manager who have completed a full season since Chris Powell apart from Bowyer and they understood my concerns about this. They also admired Appleton’s tactical approach towards the end of yesterday’s game.
I told them what Sandgaard promised us originally and told them that actions speak louder than words and understood they didn’t say anything about their plans. Jim said he doesn’t see any point promising the world as they need to do the talking on the pitch and background.
The last thing they mentioned to me as walking off the train that ‘it’s a marathon, not a sprint’ I was a little taken aback by that first but eventually nodded with them and shook their hand. It is a marathon and not a sprint as Charlton have been so f**ked up over the years that they probably need to get our house in order.
Overall, it was a pleasant chat with them. Just hope they turn out good to be this time!

I completely accept that it’s not a sprint but, in athletics terms, would hope it’s a 5.000 or 10,000 metres rather than a marathon.1

We can't expect a quick fix with the constant instability of player churn set to continue. Our decline has been years in the making. Why would we think to reverse it can be done in the short term?0 -

Abankwah was no 973 to represent us. I'm guessing that the number of new players used since Curbs left is disproportionately high compared to the number used previously in our history. That instability, caused mostly by the decisions of poor Club owners, is why we find ourselves now as a middling L1 Club imo.
One for @Henry Irving on the stats side.
Edit - same goes for the lack of managerial longevity since.0 -

Constant changes in manager are, IMHO, a factor but so are bosman, the number of subs, minor cup competitions and rotation3 -

They say it's a marathon, not a sprint, yet they've also said it's imperative that we get into the championship as quickly as possible. So it is a bit of a sprint. Contradictory comments imo.

I’m sure they told you that, but I don’t believe they are having any discussions of substance, if any at all. They just tell you what they think people want to hear.21 -
The "conversation" about the Valley/Sparrows Lane:
JR: Hey Roland. Would you be interested in selling the grounds to us?
RD: No.
JR: Okay.1 -
"I also asked them about The Valley and Sparrows lane and they’re continuing to discuss with Roland about arrangements." ..... arrangements as in the details of the lease!!1

That would be a very good question put to him face to face. I'd not know the answer.
