Yeah, the colour blindness rules seem to be a factor in what kit is worn1
-
I'm not sure black against blue improves things much though, surely white would make more sense if a change was needed.0
-
It’s also what’s available and ready to go I suppose as well0

The shirt is bad enough but to wear it with yellow chinos is an absolute fashion travesty which I even think Michael portillo would be disgusted with.11 -
The away kit should always be white, black or yellow and the third kit can be as weird and off-putting as it wants. With the exception of last year's third kit being quite good the blue kits are always a bit naff. I would like the next third kit to see a designer go all in on the purple and green design. We've had two kits that have had a nod to it but bottled going big and hidden it inside a standard black kit. Give me a nice bonkers third kit to weird people out with at 5 a side and be done with it4

Interesting article on Bayern fans protesting about wearing their away kit in a recent home game against Galatasaray (it was suggested that both of Galatasaray's home and away shirts could seemingly be deemed as a clash with Bayern's home)
https://footballshirtcollective.com/blogs/things-we-like/the-club-colours-are-untouchable
Bayern fans protested back in 2018, pushing back against a number of kit related moves which Bayern had made at the time including the use of blue shorts as part of the home kit and the introduction of unorthodox colours for the away and third kits.

Yellow away kit.
there is no circumstance that I can think of in which there would be any clash which would require a 3rd kit.
I get the commercial argument, but at 3rd division level, the total margin on a 3rd kit sales will be two fifths of fuck all. There‘s zero marketing / brand equity value in it either.0 -
With most keeper shirts being short sleeved these days I don't see why they couldn't double up as a third kit if needed. Obviously doesn't make the supplier any more money though so wouldn't happen.0

If you have one to sell I'll give you £50 for it, I'll come and collect as well to save any inconvenience on travel.

I can't love the black kit, associations with the previous one and its just....boring.
My suggestion is based on the Charlton Athletic Wiki entry which said that for one year in the ancient past we played with a first team kit of light blue/dark blue stripes. Why not recreate something like that?
Alternatively get one of the young fans with "Street Cred" do a graffiti style design? Could be awful and genuinely memorable.
What's your suggestion
Charlton play in red at home.
Charlton play in red away unless the home team wears red / red and white stripes.
Why did we wear black away at Portsmouth?
Ditto the Merseyside derby, where both teams play their normal kits.
I guess the big PL sides know they can shift tons of shirts, even if they hardly wear them, whereas lower down they feel the need to use the 2nd and 3rd kits to help sell them.
how many buy the 3rd cos they don't like the 2nd? I'd lay good money that gross sales with 3 choices ain't significantly different from if there were just 2.
Have they done any research as to whether seeing the 2nd and 3rd kits in use at away games actually impacts the sales? I'd guess we mug punters will buy the ones we like the look of just from seeing them in the shop and in the relentless deluge of adverts in all the 'communication' from the club, seeing them on the players doesn't make any difference does it, even for those of us with equally ripped physiques?
That being so why stop at 3 'replica' kits? A different colour for every day of the week? If it's got the badge on it, it's a Charlton shirt innit?0 -
Maybe we should copy QPR

I’m colourblind. Nightmare some games. Stop watching TV numerous times. Not sure why it’s not more of a consideration throughout the game. And it’s just all about obvious contrast… if you can be bothered to consult the right people.Come on, not that difficult. Also agree about 3rd kits. Pointless. If I go to a Charlton game, home or away, I’d like to see a wall of red. Which just doesn’t happen with 3 kits.0

I think olive green and black stripes with black shorts looks really nice but maybe I'm swayed because it's my old school's colours.
I do agree with the other comments that we should only change when the home side wears red. Unfortunately it's the marketing and money that holds sway nowadays.
Would have suggested it to Castore but, unlike Hummel, they had already finished their designs before they "consulted" fans.
Agree that we should always wear Red away unless the home team do as well.1 -
Chuck in the goalie kits and there’s about 5 kits to choose from each season
I think this or last season there was a black goalie kit and obviously looks like it could be an outfield players strip

@Powell2ThePeople is red v blue tricky for you and is black v blue better?0

I wrote in Goodbye Horse at the time that those colours belong on Wimbledon ballboys/girls and no-one else, and it's as true today as it has always been.
Worst CAFC kit ever.3 -
Purple Viglen or Mesh Ecru for me1

I’ve always said our away kit should be the same as that worn in the 1947 cup final victory and our only major trophy success v Burnley. White Shirts, black shorts, red trim on collar and cuffs and combination of red/white/black socks whichever doesn’t clash with the oppo (they were red and white hoops on that great day), Anything else is sacrilege 😉.
