Appleton needs some cnuts. Watson, too soft, Edun too soft, Anderson too soft (not ready not a complaint) Fraser too soft, I could go on down the list, Tedic too soft, Watson too soft, Campbell too soft etc... When we do compete physically for a spell you can see we are on the edge and we can't sustain that. Our youngsters need supporting through games but our senior players can't do that because they need support themselves. It is also fitness to support your teammates, we are too weak and too static. I'd start with the midfield and go from there.

That was not a bad performance tonight we did not deserve to lose that game but the main diff was they bring in a physical experienced striker and ours are injured , and that’s when we started to slip once Leaburn joined Aneke on the injured list … was not long ago we were scoring for fun , MA must be frustrated and he most be given time to get his own players in .. and to build a balanced squad .

    Bore off

Back in about 1965 Cliff Holton joined (mid thirties) and saved us from relegation from division 2 to division 3. We need an experienced modern Cliff Holton equivalent in January. I don't mean Ben Watson or equivalent with his zimmer frame as his legs have gone.
  • The only positive is that that is the very last time this pathetic.excuse of a Charlton side will ruin an evening in 2023.
Plans to go to see Oxford now cancelled. Roll on next season.

Appleton just said that he thought we were great in the second half, the man is deluded

    Wum’s gonna wum.
Ronnie is right, before that free kick we were the side that more likely, it's time to look at the players contribution as well the manager. Have a look at Corey Blackett Taylor's positioning for the free kick, he's just standing there looking around, it's players like him who are the problem. Whatever anyone say's, and I didn't agree with Alfies removal, Appleton's subs worked, Campbell made, Tedic finished.

That performance has actually made me angry and it should all of us
We should be demanding a change. Appleton thinks the second half was good?
    he’s totally lost it
  • Appleton keeps playing the same formation, that has delivered us 3 points of 15 in December. I am genuinely confused why we don't try something different like 3 at the back, just to give opponents something new to think about, as we're so predictable to play against. Opponents know that if you stop May cutting inside, he ends up completely wasted and ineffective on the wing.

Why not switch to 3 at the back for away games? Our full backs aren't good defensively, with a 3rd CB this becomes less important. And we have no established right winger anyway.

                               GK
             Jones Hector Thomas
    Watson Watson Dobson  CBT/Edun
                   May      Tedic/Kanu

It's not ideal for CBT, but he's being triple marked now anyway.

To be fair, they weren't better than us. Great is a bit strong. They were just stronger and bullied us.

When we scored Brizzle were there for the taking but instead we cock up yet again.
Our midfield is very, very weak. With Taylor and McGrandles out injured who can Appleton replace Fraser and co with?
Fraser/Anderson/Watson/Campbell/Campbell are not the answer imo. Camara is good going forward but we need solid defence minded players to stop the rot.
Sort the defence out first...then focus on the attack.
  • Let's have it right the kid Anderson isn't good enough. Not strong enough to be a defensive midfielder and technically not good enough with the ball offensively. It's been too long since the academy has produced a ball playing central midfielder. This is Charlton so we are not aloud to ask difficult questions but is our academy to focused on producing powerful, athletic footballers that always seem to come from a 'good family'. For the love of God can we please see a youngster of ours with a bit of creativity and vision in the middle of the park.

Could see that from as soon as he pulled up his groin early first half, yet we left him on to run himself into the ground. If he's out for any length of time we are properly fucked.

Just seen the post match interview, described the performance as “not hard to defend”, must’ve watched a different game

    Thanks for mentioning.
  • In fairness to Appleton, everything he has said since he joined is true…

”This squad has a soft underbelly”
”This squad is very young / lacks seniors”
”The way to improve this situation is to change/improve the personnel”
“The Jan transfer window needs to be a million times better than previous ones”

I actually agree with @RonnieMoore. Without Aneke & Leaburn any manager would struggle with this bunch (Holden had the exact same problem when they were both injured).

With 4 months + still to go, I’m genuinely worried the damage this season can do to our club. Feels like it’s putting us back years, which none of us ever thought was possible.

We are a mile away from where we need to be.
We are a mile because of poor recruitment, young players like Abankwah were brought in and were not up to the standard, the summer window should have been used to bring in experience up front and in midfield, it wasn't and that happened before Appleton got here.

Interesting given many on the Match Thread felt it was the worst possible decision to sub him.

I didnt see that happen myself, so thanks for mentioning.
Was when he cleared the ball into the sky from a corner. Immediately held his groin and looked like he couldn't open up to sprint for the rest of the half.

Saw him speak to MA a couple of times but whether it was about it or saying he could continue, I've got no idea.

I feel more sorry for the damage this clown is doing to our club, but not surprising you take a different take on events
  • First half appalling. Second half better but barely good. Still can’t keep a clean sheet.

“In the second half I thought we were great”

Appleton sounds like one of those gang of halfwits Paddy Considine takes out in the film Dead Man’s Shoes.
