Interesting Stat that popped up from the Twitter feed:

Bailey has scored 9 in 18 league games since Parky switched him to left midfield. His record was 6 in 27 in the centre

    Who needs a pacy striker ..... ?

Seriously, we probably still do. But credit to Nicky Bailey for a 1 goal in 2 matches return that most strikers would be envious of.

The key, of course, as Parky evidently recognised (perhaps initially just in training matches), is that Bailey drifts in late from the blindside into the box - and no defender is picking him up.

And that's in addition to his general midfield contribution and covering Youga's liabilities.

let's hope we can hold on to bailey and co till after the transfer deadline, then they all stay fit , then the january transfer deadline, and then they all stay fit again to see us home to a record breaking 46 win promotion and 138 points................. e-i-e-i-e-i-o

4-5-1 looks to be the key. We had a manager that we would moan at when he was successful in the prem. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery i guess.

its becuase baileys an animal :) i seriously think hes our best player no offence to rest of the team im not tryna put them down in anyway shape or form but baileys just awesome hopully we'll keep him .

4-5-1 has been working for us but thing is deon burton can only hold the ball up for someone to get their if we get some one fast charltn gonna muder all defences :)

did anyone see the sunderland game bent and kenwye jones played fornomaal with each other , they both knew exsactly where the other one was and where to place the ball thier gonna be amazing this season but thats what we need someone whos gonna click with burton

I'm very happy with him on the left, it frees him up but makes us more solid, and look at the out and out wingers we've had in recent seasons. None of them were consistent enough and I doubt we'll find someone that is.

The problem with playing Bailey wide left is that h is right footed and not a natural winger...........which means that most of our play is down the right and is then down to Lloyd Sam to produce the crossess etc. One reason we nearly capitulated to Wycombe last week was that as soon as Sam went off & we went 4-4-2 thre was no outlet. Wade Small MAY be the answer but I can see teams sussing us out and putting 2 players on Sam and snuffing us out.........may need a player who can play wide left AND get crossess in as Bailey can't do this.

And do without Bailey's goals, midfield contribution and cover for Youga's liabilities .... ?

The teams set up for Bailey to plunder goals, and he does.

If it ain't broke, no need to fix it ...... although it may be useful to have a Plan B, if needed.

I really like him. his attitude, basically everything about him. I think he's been as effective a player as we have signed in a long time.

One of Pardew's only successes, and at a decent price too!

Pardew also signed Racon and Semedo.

But failed to get the best out of them.

maybe pardew was just planning ahead and that getting the best out of them would be in the third division.

Well that's what he seemed to be signing Dean Sinclair for. And Stuart Fleetwood for League Two. Dorian Smith for Ryman Premier.

He's scored 15 League goals for us so far.

About as many as Varney, Gray and McLeod put together.
How much did they all cost .....?

    Total 20 goals, £4.6m

    Nicky Bailey 15 goals, £750,000

That's what it could potentially rise to, based on promotion last season and probably things like appearances. More likely it was closer to £400k. Makes the money we paid for those strikers look even worse.

Bailey as well as Racon & Semedo were all bargains, shame Pardew's expensive signings pretty much all failed completely.

Cost of starting team last Saturday:

    Elliot - None
    Richardson - None
    Dailly - None
    Llera - None
    Youga - None

    Sam - None
    Semedo None
    Racon - £400k
    Bailey - £400k

    Shelvey - None
    Burton - None

Well, bugger me, I didn't realise that there were only 2 players in the starting team that commanded a fee.
There were just 3 Pardew signings (perhaps his best) in midfield, Parky's bargain basement freebies...... and a bunch who came through the ranks.

    Deffo Parky's team now!

That's astonishing! I would guess there aren't many teams in our division with a lower purchase price. Brilliant job, Parky!

    To add to that

Elliot - None - youth (given debut by Pardew)
    Richardson - None - Parky
    Dailly - None - Parky
    Llera - None - Parky
    Youga - None - Curbs

Sam - None - youth (given debut by Curbs)
    Semedo None - Pardew
    Racon - £400k - Pardew
    Bailey - £400k - Pardew

Shelvey - None - youth (given debut by Pardew)
    Burton - None - Parky

Kind of funny how there is one Curbs signing left, and all the Dowie signings left ages ago.

And the other thing is ..... for all his signings, Parky hasn't spent a single penny in transfer fees.

Talk about having to do it the hard way .........
