Michael Appleton - March 2025 appointed Shrewsbury manager (p124)

I hope he gets through this. I do respect the man. I agree with him, you don't have to jump about like a performing seal as a manager. If you make your points without confusion and fanfare they are often clearer. We have got into a poor run because the squad has not been resillient enough. We have strengthened and now have options accross the pitch but we are in a stall which one result will get us out of or at least could get us out of.
I would say in recent games the reason we have lost points is Jones not having the necessary defensive awareness about where the danger lies. That could be he misses a leader telling him what to do at the back. He should be constantly scanning the pitch IMO. T Watson also being totally unsuitable for the role he is being asked to play, lacking the physical attributes. Ness being a youngster who is not full of confidence is not helping either. Appleton does have options now to do something about that. It isn't throwing these players to the wolves or under a bus but taking them out in the moment.
If we win on Tuesday, it is what we should be doing at home to Northampton whether they are in good form or not. Then win at Blackpool and Appleton might have a chance. A small one, but a chance all the same.6 -

A very good postthenewbie said:For all the outrage and disappointment I have to say it's mostly self inflicted by the fans. None of the SMT or the comms team or "official" press people have said anything other than he's not fired... which he is not.
Whether or not he should be, it's been entirely on "ITKs" saying he's fired and with absolutely no official backing or even little hints or cryptic comments.
A lot of people look a bit daft right now and almost all of them bought it on themselves.

Forgot the CL wink 😉Foxycafc said:Just a rumour, but I’ve heard Appleton "coaches" children near Dartford and never actually goes to The Valley. And he’s the first to pipe up with his ignorant bile - kill Communists, hang out the St George's flag, and shoot anyone who talks to his disabled mother. He is an idiot.

Judging by todays events if Appleton gets a win tomorrow evening, about 200 odd lifers will have to be put on suicide watch !4

So Appleton is saying he definitely took training this morning, others are suggesting (still) that he definitely didn’t.I think the club is in a tricky spot with some of his comments, he’s really not helped himself, and now the fans have turned I don’t see what benefit there is in giving him one more game.1

Been on an emergency care course all day, has it been announced yet?4

Was wondering the same thing. Can't remember who the poster was without trawling back through 30 pages but they said they had a very reliable training ground contact who confirmed Fleming took training and Appleton definitely didn't.L0rd_M0ntagu3 said:So Appleton is saying he definitely took training this morning, others are suggesting (still) that he definitely didn’t.I think the club is in a tricky spot with some of his comments, he’s really not helped himself, and now the fans have turned I don’t see what benefit there is in giving him one more game.
I think it's fair to assume that the contact has no reason to lie and would've just said 'yes' if Appleton was there, so why has Appleton now been put in the position where he has to lie to the press?
All become a bit of a mess really.1 -

What were the comments L0rd ? People on here said he didn't take training, he said he did, I can't comment, I wasn't there. What else have I missed something ?L0rd_M0ntagu3 said:So Appleton is saying he definitely took training this morning, others are suggesting (still) that he definitely didn’t.I think the club is in a tricky spot with some of his comments, he’s really not helped himself, and now the fans have turned I don’t see what benefit there is in giving him one more game.0 -
I don't even care if he starts winning. I want him gone and I feel like a large part of the fanbase feel the same.

Has anyone seen any personal abuse aimed at MA online? (Beyond the usual football stuff of "He's a twat" etc.)3

No one would walk. It’d be an admission of failure (I know) and you’d be saying ‘no’ to a couple of hundred grand, or whatever. It’s not like he’s going to be walking into a job at this level anytime soon.se9addick said:

He's getting dogs abuse online and saying 'they wouldn't say it to my face' is both fair enough and true!
I'm going to wait for him before the game tomorrow and have a chat.

I only see here and have a look on Twitter occasionally, but I’ve not seen or heard anything particularly OTT for someone experienced in the game to be so reactive aboutChunes said:Has anyone seen any personal abuse aimed at MA online? (Beyond the usual football stuff of "He's a twat" etc.)10 -

Others also said he'd been sacked though! It seems they were mistaken. Don’t get his touchline demeanour at all. He spoke after the game about us not passing the ball forward enough in the second half, why doesn’t he try telling the players that during the game instead of afterwards, or making subs to change that (L.Watson). Doing neither just looks like accepting defeat14

Just seems odd, that so many were convinced that he didn’t. Not digging anyone out btw, sources are wrong sometimes. 🤷🏼♂️
But, how a club director can read Appleton’s comments and think “everything is okay” seems very odd. Tomorrow night will be even more toxic now because of some of his comments.0 -
Walking past The Valley on the way home from my job taking in injured kittens when MA came running out to confront me. Said he was furious over comments made on this thread. He eyeballed me and then unleashed his anger on me, as evidenced in the witness iPhone footage below:

What a strange day. I don't see the point in giving him 1 more game. Looks like he's lost the dressing room & he never had the fans on side either.
Was a strange appointment & it's even more strange to be dragging this out & prolonging the inevitable6 -

In this modern age a conspiracy theory will develop around this. There will those who will ALWAYS believe that he didn’t take training today, and they will say the footage put out on the OS was faked, and that he is indeed a lizard.L0rd_M0ntagu3 said:
