When Albie was here he'd occasionally have a brilliant game and people would lose their minds about how great he could be and ask if he'd finally turned the corner. I remember the Plymouth game where we were in such total control he ended up getting shifted to right back and was still running the game from there. In the end though Plymouth won the league and we didn't win our next 8 games. Albie having a good game isn't anything new, Albie consistently playing like that would be a real progress and there's no evidence he's found that consistency at Blackpool either even if he has improved. Hope he gets there eventually

The fact that his dead ball delivery and goals tally have improved says it all about our coaching.Albie may not have the best footballing brain but he is a great striker of the ball and clearly Blackpool’s coaching has utilised this skill of his to improve kicks, corners and shots on target.Shame we couldn’t have done it with “one of our own” but it does explain the Charltonisation of players who turn to shit when they arrive at the Valley (too many to mention).0

Agree, we’ll know he’s improved if he’s a regular in a team genuinely challenging for promotion. Consistency only comes with age and experience. This is ultimately what it came down to with Morgan, needed to get away from Charlton and find a new environment. Completely fresh start0 -
Morgan’s about to turn 24 and played over 100 games for us. Who else have we let go too early and it’s turned out to be a mistake? There’s the odd example over the last decade but the bigger problem has been selling young talent too early because we need the money and aren’t progressing enough as a club to hold onto them.queensland_addick said:

Kermagant poor at Leicester, great for us.
Lyle Taylor great for us ,poor for Forest.
Simon Francis is another example, I could go on.

I agree, I meant it was the right decision. I don’t think there are many others we didn’t give enough time to, those who stayed tended to be those who never nailed down a regular place because they weren’t good enough.blackpool72 said:

As you say he might do well elsewhere by getting a fresh start and finding the right club and manager.2 -
Realising Morgan was a mistake. Never set the world alight, but we had a player who cared and on his day was creative for us.We would be playing him over Fiorini and Watson for sure. Salary would have been chips as well.2

Another tick for Morgan is that he never seems to get injured. His midfield replacements Taylor and Camara have hardly played this season.10

That’s an issue with recruitment though. It’s fine to release inconsistent players but we usually replace them with similar or worse, whether that’s ability or due to injury/fitness problems.killerandflash said:Another tick for Morgan is that he never seems to get injured. Think it was at Burton away and as Allie was warming up as sub on the touch line a bunch of our knucklehead “fans” were hurling abuse at him . He’d had a few forgettable moments in previous games. His expression said it all, he was gutted and disgusted. Good luck to him he’s probably glad to be away.3

Not a professional club in the country who does not have that kind of fan though, good luck to Albie, truly hope it works out for him long term not just another short run of form as was so common for him here but similar to the Campbell situation if you are that deeply effected by a handful of morons you are unlikely to ever be mentally strong enough to make the most of your abilities.0

Yeah if clearly you weren't particularly liked while you were playing for the team, I don't mind the player then celebrating a goal against us.

Took his goal well and had a very good game and after having been released by us he had every right to celebrate.

Of course some fans were annoyed. Why wouldn't they be? It's like football isn't allowed to be theatre anymore, it's got to be a sanitised corporate event. Like all reactions have to factor in external variables and be crafted into a balanced view. The tribalism, the intensity and the drama that made it electric is just stripped away. Now these genuine reactions are considered too much - as if you should watch and support your team from an emotional distance. As if to say: 'So what if the ex-player celebrated in front of the home end? We should understand it from his point-of-view. And good for him!' Good grief. Let football be football.
