2023-24 CL Prediction League Week 25 Results / Cup Replays / Cup Draws

Barnsley's stoppage time goal to beat Leyton Orient saved this week from being another low-scoring week. However, Luton's home defeat to Sheffield United produced 77 wrong predictions out of 77 - higher than the previous record for the season of 72 out of 72 when Charlton drew with Cray Valley Paper Mills. In the Cup replays, there weren't too many shocks, but @Billyboy from the National League South deserves a mention for making it through to the 4th Round of the Prediction Knock-Out Cup, although the next tie is a tough one away to @Rudders22, who is third in the Premier League. @Redmidland caused an upset, too, in the Johnstone Paint Prediction Cup, winning by a 4-1 margin after a long-haul flight to face @Bangkokaddick. In the League, the top scorers were @croydonaddick and @Webbja77, who both picked up 5 points; @Webbja77 is really on the march, bursting into the Premier League and this week's Zero to Hero. At the top of the Premier League, the cream of CL predictors are battling out a close battle, with one point separating @Chippycafc, @Chris_from_Sidcup and @Rudders22, but there are many others in contention with several weeks to go. There are just 16 competitors left in each of the three cup competitions as they get towards the business end. Who will have the indignity of winning the first-ever EFL Pizza Cup?

    Relax. Premier League teams are doing terribly in the cups this year. You could be the big upset of the round (or you might lose 5-1 and be plucky little Lordflashheart).

    What does won on penalties mean in the cup? Is it a coin toss or something?

    It's a bit like a coin toss. The sum of the goals in a competitor's predictions are compared with the actual number of goals from the three predictions. Whoever is closer wins on penalties. If that's a tie, each match is taken in turn, i.e. the most points scored from the first games of each competitor, failing that the number of goals predicted and so on for the second and third games until there is a winner. If all else fails, the competitor getting the more recent higher score decides.     So, for your tie, you predicted a total of 6 goals when there were actually 12 (a difference of 6), whereas stackitsteve predicted 12 goals and there were 12 goals. Hope that helps @WHAddick.

    Thanks for the 'thank you', but I happen to be able to write computer programs, so most of this stuff is automated. I select the fixtures from dropdown lists, I manually enter the results, paste everyone's predictions into an Excel spreadsheet and everything happens more or less automatically. However, this week, I wasted an hour because someone typed Posh instead of Peterborough. That's not a problem as the programs recognise alternatives like Scum=Millwall, Stripey Nigels=Palace etc., but Posh picked up an alternative name for Orient (Os) and Posh because of the 'os' being in both words. It took me an hour to solve. However, usually it's about 10 minutes.

    Bang on the money - I’m stunned by the level of detail, but what is best is the commentary that we get each week - I regularly look at oppo forums in the few days before we play them, and whilst CL can be ‘challenging’ on certain threads at times, this thread kicks any other stuff I have seen anywhere into touch - it’s just briliant - pure football, pure ‘have a laugh’ 


    But, fucking hell, I’m shit on this thread 🙄

    I expected to read this thread today and read I had lost on Penalties(thought it was countback and as 3 weeks ago i scored 0 I thought I was out)

    Delighted to see my lads had been working on their Penalties and we actually won on Penalties 😉😉

    Looking forward to another all League 1 battle in the next round v @Killarahales
