FishCostaFortune said:Just to add to this, not saying he is anywhere near as good, and I’m clearly getting a bit excitable about his potential talent.
But did have a feeling of Conor Gallagher’s first short cameo for us. Just something a little bit different about him.
I understand what you mean when you get a good vibe about a player but Conor Gallagher was 19 and one of the most highly rated teenagers at any London Football club whereas Conor Coventry is 24 in March.
He still sounds like a good signing for a lower mid table team in the 3rd tier.
I wish him well but playing cameos for West Ham with top players around you don't count for much when playing Carlisle or Fleetwood in front of small crowds.
Sounds like a real positive signing.0 -
Interesting interesting insight from Steve Brown yesterday when he suggested that West Ham coaches Kevin Keen and our former coach / player Mark Robson were instrumental in encouraging Conor to come here

Poor blokes been sold words ffs0

Wonder what he is thinking, same with the rest of them. I doubt they expected the level of dislike from the fan base for the man that brought them here.1

Harsh of the Hungarians to demand Connor as a replacement for Dobbo but I guess we got most of what we paid to West Ham back.0

Coventry and Watson left out for tactical reasons.

I think it’s also a way of showing the squad no one is guaranteed to play, even if they were a big January signing.16 -
Nathan Jones certainly hasn't been having a wnak over his stats has he.
Picking the team based on performances and training.
Not saying CC won't end up being a good player for us eventually but pours scorn over the keyboard football manager geniuses who told us him, Barkinson and Fiorini would be our saviours.
It's almost as if signing unfit, unplayed, unfamcied (by their current clubs) players was going to solve all our problems.....19 -

So the SMT sign Coventry to replace Dobbo?, they hope hes almost as good as Dobbo so that we won't notice, and they will save a few quid on the swap, but then Jones spots the switcharoo and realises that the fake Dobbo is not quite as good as the actual Dobbo that he still has, so he stops the genuine Dobbo going, and parks Coventry as a spare Dobbo in case the real Dobbo goes in the summer. Like a can of tyre inflator when you get a puncture.

For me Coventry is playing the wrong for position for us, from I have seen of him in games for other clubs, he played more as a traditional midfielder rather than at the base, which he has done for us, apart from his game which we all left impressed how go he is. Would like to see him in front of Bakinson8

NJ’s comments are spot on. We’ve got a proper manger at last.8

Shame he wasn't put on the bench as I think as the game went on he would have found his place. Once Chuks came on Lincoln didn't play a single minute of football. What time they couldn't waste feigning injury they spent hoofing the ball away in increasingly panicked ways. The game just became Dobson picking the ball up deep and trying to create an angle to put a cross in. Having Coventry in that deep role delivering balls in as well would have given us a bit more creativity and variety for Lincoln to deal with. If we ever become good at football again and manage to control games Coventry will find his place but I'm not surprised Jones didn't put him in for a scrap.

Think there's a lot more to see of Covvo, with or without Dobbo8

Being a 2nd half sub for Anderson would have worked yesterday.5

I've been told Coverntry's "stats" were superb and far in excess of anything Dobbo has produced because "he's a better player than Dobson" but as I have said before, football isn't solely a stats game. What matters is the impact a player can have on a game, a team, a fanbase. Throw all that into the melting pot and Dobbo deserves his place.
Admittedy he gave it away a few times last night against Lincoln but his swashbuckling tackling and commitment is the sort of stuff people want to see at Charlton.
I don't doubt Coventry will turn out to be a good player but I don't see him as a holding midfielder.9 -
Think NJ’s management has been excellent and motivated, but also think Coventry will be a very good player for us irrespective of what happens with George and I think that they can play together5
-
With the team selection last night, the big call wasn't Dobbo playing instead of Coventry, it was Anderson playing instead of Coventry or Watson.7

Him and Louis Watson (more so Watson) looked pissed off before the game.0
-
Still think he's going to be an excellent signing, wouldn't be surprised if he's rotated back in Saturday for Bakinson.6
-
How on earth does Bakinson get in ahead of Coventry, already starting to losing faith in the chosen one.8

Coventry was our major January signing and hasn't shown anything to be an improvement on Dobson who he was supposed to replace. So much so, that Dobson has ended up staying and starting ahead of him.
Maybe we should've signed a midfielder with creativity rather than an ego trip to replace our best player for no reason.7
