Yeah, I was thinking this as well. It can't be cheap getting cameras, crew, commentators etc to these places for what must be tiny viewing figures and minimal advertising revenue. But I'm guessing they know their business model better than I do!cafctom said:

will definitely have an effect on attendances - there will be some Saturdays I wouldn't make it for a 12.30 KO so would end up watching from home3

I doubt they are going to do the full prem league coverage of our games. More like the coverage Charlton tv give without the studio pundit and summary part.
Commentators on the game do not have to be at the stadium they can commentate from camera coverage, just as TMS do for big bash games from Australia and England overseas tours quiet often.2 -

is this just to let the football league as it stands wither on the vine. Attendances will drop, advertising revenues will be minimal, the only way to "save" it will be to let B sides in from the preimer clubs.

The UK TV audience numbers for the Prem are or have maxed out. I know myself I'm watching less and less Premier football, I'm getting fed up, it's almost like watching computer generated stuff such are the technical skills and styles of play most teams aspire to. Together with the inclination to win fouls every chance they get, I'm happier to watch a 90 minute summary on MOTD than struggle through 100 minutes of sanitised football on a Saturday and Sunday. I watch more form the WSL and lower leagues than I ever used to........ it seems more like proper football. Perhaps Sky need the EFL more than they ever did in order to retain and keep growing a paying UK audience?
There's also the possibility that some of the bigger clubs see themselves marketing and selling their own global TV rights, or maybe some of them will club together to do it? No doubt Sky have a handle on what would happen to their audience if something like that happened........... or I guess if the Super League ever came about? Sky would like to have a loyal and growing EFL audience if the Prem wasn't available to them.1 -

Yes, but if you look at last season because of games moved to Internationals, games on bank holidays and the standard midweek games, we played 14 league games not on Saturday 3pm anyway. I was under the impression all games, whether on sky or not, would be available internationally as it is not legal to watch sky outside the UK? Or have I got it arse about face again?Callumcafc said:

I think there’ll be a stream available but the legality of it could be up in the air with streaming in certain territories. They are going to be on Sky which you’d think means they’ll be available for international broadcasters to pick up as well.Algarveaddick said:

And if those matches are picked up by those broadcasters, in all likelihood they won’t be available on Charlton TV in that broadcaster’s country.
It’s the same with any TV game of seasons past. If it was on Sky, Charlton TV couldn’t show it internationally (in most territories) because that meant it was also on DAZN, ESPN, SuperSport, BeIN and other channels around the world.
I suppose it will all depend on whether the EFL & Sky will differentiate between regularly broadcast games and these new additional streamed games.2 -

The English Football League (EFL) has secured record deals of at least £148million ($188m) for its international TV rights across a four-season period.
The new deals ensure record guaranteed international rights fees for EFL clubs, with two agencies, Pitch International and Relevent Sports, representing the organisation across global TV markets until the conclusion of the 2027-28 campaign.
The deals could see the EFL — which runs the second, third and fourth tiers of English football (the Championship, League One and League Two), as well as the League Cup and the EFL Trophy — bank more than the minimum guaranteed £148m, which in itself is a 40 per cent increase from the previous agreements.
The EFL will receive at least $132m from Pitch (which covers Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand) and $56m from Relevent (the Americas), which is the agency selling UEFA’s TV rights in the U.S.
Under these deals, Pitch International will distribute 155 Championship games, 38 League One and League Two matches, all promotion play-off fixtures, Carabao Cup rounds, and three EFL Trophy matches.
Relevent Sports, meanwhile, will sell all EFL matches, promotion play-off games, Carabao Cup rounds, and three EFL Trophy fixtures across the Americas. Additionally, they will manage all betting rights throughout the United States.
Pitch International will provide EFL rights in Europe, MENA, and other regions worldwide. Relevent Sports will spearhead distribution throughout North, Central, and South America, aiming to bolster clubs’ profiles in these regions through dedicated marketing endeavours.
The EFL said in a statement that as part of the new agreement, “clubs will be able to continue international streaming services direct to fans overseas, where matches are not being broadcast exclusively, enabling those based abroad the chance to watch their team’s matches throughout the whole season”.
