The quote I remember from the time, from a Spanish journalist who came over to watch one of our games was ‘honey isn’t made for the mouth of a donkey’.
He was poetically right, but Simonsen was superb for us and has provided great memories.14 -
Remember seeing his debut at home to Boro , he was so far ahead and at a different level than anyone else on the pitch it was Ridiculous.13

Absolutely agree.gmantaxi said:Remember seeing his debut at home to Boro , he was so far ahead and at a different level than anyone else on the pitch it was Ridiculous.
(One of the most unlikely transfers in history and was clearly not well thought out but I saw him play and it was incredible)7 -

His kit looked too big for him, but he ran rings around everyone on the pitch...
I saw Alan Simonsen play for Charlton at The Valley.

Probably the second most skillfull player i have ever seen in a Charlton shirt and the first was Danish also.
Claus Jensen
Who is Jamie Magill ?2 -
Wasn't his first game against Newcastle and it was billed as Simonsen v Keegan? Did Simonsen score as well I seem to remember?0

He just looks cold.
Who wouldn't when you're used to the shores of the Catalan coast then all of a sudden you're standing in a valley on the banks of the Thames.2 -
It was Middlesbrough @Redmidland.
Probably the best player I have ever seen in a Charlton shirt. If anyone is interested, my ode to Alan Simonsen here:

I wonder if had his agent not put in that clause that he can leave as soon as he's not paid and we managed to sell him how much it would of changed our fortunes afterwards.ChicagoAddick said:A much more relevant article on Simonsen here:

His first game was a Tuesday night reserve match - I think it was against Swansea reserves. He then played again on the Saturday. I think about 3,000 turned up for the reserve game. 2 goals against Chelsea, and 2 against Leicester straight down the middle of the defence. Magic.3

He was great in Happy Days

To be honest, you would imagine that Allan would view his short time at Charlton as a stain on his otherwise immaculate CV. However, I was lucky enough to meet him when he came back for the Ex- Players Reunion in 1998. I talked to him for a while, and he was very positive about Charlton. He said that he loved it here and was delighted to see his old teammates again. Why else would he have come back?16

Allan Simonsen and Les Berry in the same team. Who'd 'Ave Thought It to quote a Plumstead pub.
Simmo was great during his short stay even though many of our players were on a different wave length.4 -
What a game: I was in the middle of the old shed in full voice, with Chelsea belting out “One man went to mow” in the Jimmy Seed. Great atmosphere.TelMc32 said:The 5-2 game v Chelsea 😍😍😍😍😍
And then then he tore them apart. In my head, he scored two very similar goals?3 -
Even though he didn’t pass the CL height test, he was head & shoulders above his teammates.1

That was his league debut for us.gmantaxi said:Remember seeing his debut at home to Boro , he was so far ahead and at a different level than anyone else on the pitch it was Ridiculous.
His first game for us was coming on as sub against Swansea at The Valley in a res game
Crowd was 2500 for that match which Charlton won 4-0. Simonsen laid on goal for Walker if I remember.
His name was listed as playing in the Chelsea away match afew weeks early, that was the game Geoff Scott was injured in.0 -
