A good point, well made.   :)

Not been there before and hadn’t realised it’s a direct train albeit clearly a lot more stops on the way back. Makes it more annoying it’s not a 3pm kick off

Ticket splitter could be a cheaper option.

Isn’t the key issue going from the ground to the station afterwards?
I have never been to the DW Stadium.

You and little legs must be fast walkers.

Maybe there is a bus to the station. I am not as nimble as I once was.

Extremely unlikely, a taxi would be your best bet.

Sheesh Clive, I know you and I would probably disagree on a lot of things, but you are the absolute Don in terms of providing Lifers with good information. I bet I am not the only fan grateful to you here and on other threads, thanks.
Looks like bus number 3 or bus number 4 go to the station and the stops are apparently five minutes walk from the ground.

Forget the Train go by boat.

A famous section of the Leeds Liverpool canal runs directly behind the DW Stadium, giving you the opportunity to sail down to the stadium and moor up nearby. After the match, why not take the short trip to Wigan Pier!

An off peak return of £109.00 is now the cheapest option being shown, this is before a railcard discount.
I am not aware of prices through ticket splitter.

If it wasn't the first game of the season, this would be a sky tv job for me.The late kick-off is a bit of a liberty, and trains are just too expensive now.

Yeah, because some people prefer actually being there.

My miserable chum would rather be at the game but whilst I imagine he can afford to go, you have to draw a line somewhere on what you pay.
Paying this fare would mean a day out approaching £200.

Same here. Only making the effort as it's first game of the season.

These train fares sound ridiculously expensive - I wonder if it’s an issue of supply and demand, with fewer running in the August holiday season?

Yeah I get that, it’s not cheap. I just didn’t get his comment because he seemed amazed that some people would rather pay that than watch it at home. To me it’s live football over anything.

No, we just have the most expensive train fares in Europe and Avanti are the worst of the worst.

Now they're probably doing some extra price gouging before being nationalised.
  • Just seen this posted on LinkedIn. I bet that 5.30pm KO is starting to look a lot better to you young’uns now….

Wigan only put the home tickets on sale this morning, so i expect the away tickets will go on sale very soon.
