Hopefully his experience and leadership will be good for players like Leaburn and Kanu.

Always liked him in the past so let’s see how he gets on in a charlton shirt.

Well at least the new owners didn’t do this just to get some money in

Once again a player who didn't perform at the level above stepping down to see out another year of his career.

Meanwhile our best player is off to opposition.

    So very Charlton.
    Didn’t perform you having a giggle …
He scored 6 goals last season. Does that qualify as "performing" to you?

    Believe me, I'm not giggling.
6 goals in 23 starts. His game is more about scoring goals though. But don’t let that affect your judgement eh?

    sounds wank
I meant more than just about scoring goals. I have amended my post.

33 years old at the beginning of next season.

Last four seasons has tallies of 6, 8, 12 and 6. In the Championship to give that level of balance.

For a player considered more of a 'complete player' there's very little in way of assists from him.

I'm whelmed but open to seeing him play and will make judgement from there.

I don't mind that at all, as long as we also bring someone in who can at least hit double figures.  May going isn't the end of the world, provided we get a lot more goals from the team as a whole.  Last season it was pretty much May or bust when it came to scoring.  We aren't going to get another Alfie May, but we can make sure we have other players who can contribute to the overall goal tally.
Exactly.  You can make a good case of ‘May keeping us up’ but you need to remember that the inability of the rest of the team to chip in when he had a lean spell probably contributed to us being in the shit in the first place.  Happy for Godden to hit 10 as long as we’ve a couple of others approaching 15 goals

The concept seems to be that he won't necessarily bring the same number of goals individually as May did but will bring more overall - leadership, experience etc and hopefully hit somewhere in double figures for goals as well.

If it works (and someone else also gets some goals) then it's a decent idea and a good signing. I wouldn't even presume that his age definitely against him, if he's looking after himself and our new medical team do their jobs he could still get plenty of play.

It's definitely a gamble, I'm happy with this if we sign at least one other striker but if we finish the window having only swapped May for Godden I will have major reservations.

Over to you Nathan Jones, let's hope you know what you're doing.

Scored two goals in 20 minutes against Oxford in January.

Far better indicator of what he’s likely to be able to do rather than what he was able to do against Leeds, Leicester, Ipswich etc.
Exactly, otherwise Langstaff would be worth £100m after scoring 71 goals in 97 games for Notts County in the NL and L2.

I like this signing , I just hope we have the depth around him so we aren't starting Mbick or Casey by October because we didn't land another senior target and Chuks and Miles have got injured.

It will be on there after we all know about it from Cawley and other outlets. Let us hope the players are quicker than the Comms department

A lot of first time finishes in that youtube video so is a natural finisher at least, would hope and expect him and Leaburn to be the first choice as a perfect foil for eachother

His recent injury record in a bit concerning, that and the fact he's 33. So much for building a team that can be developed and grow with the club. Just seems like another summer of plugging the ever widening holes in the bow of HMS Pisstheleague

Has anyone told Matt that the schools around here are hard to get into?

So we sign a player who is past his best buy date
Who scores at best once in 4 games and he is the replacement for May. What a joke.
  • In a better league. Give the bloke a chance FFS.

Comparing Championship records to League 1 is just odd

And he’s not a direct replacement for May.

And Alfie scored one in two games. Most of which we lost!

The goalkeeper is a more important position for me at the mo.
Any news on one coming in?
  • Tryed phoning clubcall to find out a bit about this potential signing.
    Oh those were the days
