Friendly vs Tonbridge Angels Tuesday 30 July at 7:45pm

A Charlton XI have a pre-season friendly at Tonbridge tomorrow at 7:45pm according to Tonbridge. I haven't seen much mention of this elsewhere. Anyone else planning on going? Last year Tonbridge hammered us and it was a real men against boys affair (we couldn't cope with anything in the air). I am expecting a much better Charlton display this time. Nice weather forecast, so good for a beer or two!

    I hope he plays a few first teamers after Saturday's debacle.

    I hope a few first teamers feature, as many need the minutes.
  • Charlton legend Scott Wagstaff may feature for Tonbridge, although he was subbed due to an injury concern in Tonbridge's last game against Dover at the weekend.

    Legend? Are we giving these away to anyone now?

    I went to the FA cup match there and I think we won 5-1?

    I went to a pre session friendly there once. As the teams came out I gave it my loudest ‘Come on you reds!’ and Kim Grant looked at me like I was a complete idiot.

    The Angels are sort of my ‘second team’ having been to lots of matches with a friend who ran their Twitter account over the last few years. I tried to be neutral but they just grew on me. A draw tomorrow would be good for me.
  • 3-1 to the kids at half time. We look good on the break, they look good at set pieces. Pretty close for the first 30 mins but the pace of our frontline is the difference. 413 here tonight - not a bad turnout.

    54’ Goal! Santos (Tonbridge) | Tonbridge Angels 2 Charlton Athletic 3

    Bet that was sweet for Santos as we released him in the summer.
  • 4-3 to Tonbridge at Full time. Tonbridge were much stronger and made the most of their set pieces. We came close at the end but couldn’t find an equaliser.
  • Didn’t catch the teams. Best I can do is this photo

    Far to flattering to Ben Reeves hairline, he must be combing over his bum hair by now…

    Still no clean sheet.
  • 17 = Rylah?
    14 = Hunter?
    1 = McLorg?
    5 = Z Mitchell (don't think so but maybe)?

    Might as well close the academy now.

    Total waste of money if we can't beat Tonbridge.

    What has the academy ever done for us?

    Yeah. They’re a bit like promotes on CL. We give them out to any Tom, Dick or Henry! 🤷🏻‍♂️😉
  • Decent pre-season game on a lovely warm Tuesday evening. Plenty of refreshments on offer at the stadium, including ice cool beer!

    First half we were excellent going forward and were regularly opening up the Tonbridge defence. We went ahead but were pegged back soon after, but then raced to a deserved 3-1 lead at half time. The second half was a different story. Tonbridge made some tactical changes - particularly subbing the very poor left back - and they dominated the half, scoring three good goals - 2 from Santos - to end up 4-3 winners. It was a decent performance from what looked a very young Charlton XI, just a shame they couldn't sustain it in the second half.

    I can't remember exactly who was playing, but Casey played 60 minutes and scored. Mbick and Rylah were second half subs. There were a few trialists too.

    Would be interesting to give him a loan in the NLS/NL to see if can take his scoring record into senior football.

    He looks sharp and gets into good positions, but could possibly do with bulking up a bit. He got out-muscled quite a few times. I agree that a loan at the level you suggest would be a good move. I am sure there would be plenty of takers if he was offered on loan at that level.
