  • Where was this Charlton against Wimbledon last week?

When Jones talks about aggressive, front foot, football - this feels much more like it.

Winning the ball far up the pitch, and being quick when we get it.

And that's the difference having a makeshift striker upfront. A proper striker would have buried thay chance. Or at least had it on target.

Thing I'd TC had been the only player in pre-season who has been scoring.

Mitchell in 4 and Coventry in 6 will annoy a few purists
The new fangled "No 6 sitting midfielder", but no 6 to me will always be a centre back  :)
Especially weird how people like to talk about a "6" or a "4" these days - when nobody did before - when virtually none of the players they talk about have EVER worn those numbers .
Can I recommend Inverting the Pyramid by Jonathan Wilson which explains both what those numbers mean and why they came to be known as such. As well as why a "4" in Britain is a "6" in most of the rest of Europe.
    Nah, you're all right mate.

Maybe TC will be our secret weapon this season?
Not if he keeps spooning shots over the bar like that :)

    Four goals so far

May is someone you would call a proper striker and he had a 24% conversion rate last season and scored a goal every 4.4 shots….

Edwards loves a quick throw, like the fact we try to up the tempo when they make a mistake

I don't know if this has been posted anywhere but obviously we're at home to Portsmouth and millsmall are at home to Southampton today.
I'm surprised the police let both the games go ahead at the same time.
Don’t know if I’m being whooshed but Millwall kicked off at 1.
But what time does the match start? 🔧

Another good tackle by Coventry allows us to play the ball forward to Doc who snaps a low shot wide from about 25 yards

A fucking trumpet has found it's way into the mouth of a south coaster. It's been no rhythm all blues for their team so far

Pressing really well. Defence and midfield timing it perfectly when stepping out to pressure Pompey's touch when it gets into the Charlton half.

Ahadme very physical and great at pressing. Seems to open up a lot of space for his strike partner. Imagine Godden will benefit from that.
  • I'm liking the new role of TC...

Docherty getting nice and agitated about some slightly sloppy passing. Glad he's vocal and trying to push standards as he said in his interview

What a great tackle by Ramsay, held up the man on the edge of the box, slid through and won the throw in too. Glorious

This is the first time I've watched us this preseason. Campbell looks a different player.

Am I wrong to be expecting more from Ahadme?

    Was going to mention that.

A bit different to Dobson who was more a lead by crunching tackle captain.
  • 38 minutes in, and we have shown very encouraging spells of play, pressing and creating more chances...so far so good...
  • Also is it me or does Gillesphey look a bit like Alex Hales?

Well this is encouraging. Ramsey, Edwards, Doc and Ahadme all looking v good. Jones and Mitchell solid at the back.

Someone clearly has never played trumpet until 5 minutes before the game.
