With Last friendly out of the way thought I'd start a thread to discuss the season standings in general before it starts.

I'll start, Ali Maxwell and Not the 20 released their season predictions this morning
Thoughts?

( Apologies if there's one already I couldn't find one by I might be blind)

    They have us 6th.

    And Stockport in 5th.

That's how far we have fallen.

It’s an opinion piece. They know as much as the average football fan who goes week in, week out

They have us in 6th. I don't think their predictions are more valid than anyone else's.

Well they have a lot more knowledge than the average fan of the league as a whole, so their prediction does carry more weight than most but yes a prediction is a prediction

6th is a good call, in my heart of hearts, 6-8! So I'll go for 6th.

Burton fans would be dissapointed with the number of players they've brought in. Be interesting to see Wrexham fans reaction if this pans out, first time mid table mediocrity for a few years.

I think there are a few teams that will be in the running this season (we are one I think) and I’m not sure anyone should be giving Birmingham the title yet ! Unless Wrexham get busy in what’s left of the window I can’t see them being anywhere near top 6

Got to get the excuses to be miserable in early. First: it's only L1. Second: we are behind [insert any other team] and we used to play Man Utd so it doesn't count. Play-offs: should have done it in the regular season, still failure

We’ve never taken longer than 3 seasons to get out of this shithouse having been relegated in to it 5 times previous to this current one , this is our 5th season on the spin …. Soak it up enjoy , stay positive , the previous wankness means nothing for this season , just some of the characters still loitering around

League One is a beautiful thing

Racing Post League One Predictions - 2024/2025

    1. Rotherham
    2. Bolton
    3. Birmingham
    4. Huddersfield
    5. Charlton
    6. Blackpool

  • If only those making the predictions had seen Dyerconsequences’s thread first. Clubs making wholesale changes and/or with new managers are all unknowns and not dead certs for promotion/relegation. You don’t make wholesale changes unless there is something seriously wrong with the squad or culture and you can bring in Messi, Ronaldo and and half a dozen others of equal talent but it wont guarantee they will gel as a team and run away with the league. Personally, as much as everybody wants to see one or two more players brought in I think we are at the optimum number for new players, but then I also think we’ve got a lot of talent that wasn’t being used right last season. Watching that Pompey game on Saturday suggests Nathan is getting it right with the squad he has and has built so far.

I would be pleased to see Crawley stay up, and Birmingham stay down.
    Doubt that will happen though.

Not something I would bet against at this stage…

I feel a really really weird and shocking relegation could be on the cards this year. Not us but like a Barnsley or a Blackpool or something.

I'll go 6th and hopefully better if we get in another few first team players.

Just to add another dimension, Not the 20 did their betting picks and picked us as one of their best bets for promotion and also said 40/1 ahadme top scorer is a bargain due to ahadme playing for the first time in a system that will truly fit him

I like what I have seen with Ahadme but I can’t see him being a prolific goal scorer. I think he will create mayhem and space that will allow others to score the goals

I think most of the predictions having us around 6th feels very fair. A couple more quality signings and it could be more but as it stands I think they've got it about right.
