Good late afternoon everyone, and welcome back to this new season, and one which we all live in hope will be a successful one in every way, culminating in a return to The Championship and away from this God forsaken league...
So today we travel up to the Brick Community Stadium to take on Wigan Athletic in the season opener, which I have every faith in will be the first three points on the board, and well supported, as usual, by the great travelling Red Army...good on ya, one and all...
Today we get to see our new Yellow away kit, a colour which has seen us have success in from 1980 and Killer to 2005 and Dennis (in the last minute) Rommedhal with that goal at Selhurst...with Andy Hunt, Mark Kinsella, and Shaun Bartlett to name but a few sandwiched in between...memories eh..👍
Really looking forward to this one today, even if it is at 5.30pm...🤷‍♂️

We've met 18 times over the years, with seven wins apiece, one of the remaining four draws came the last time the sides faced off, when Chuks' late goal snatched a point in April this year.

 team news...

Charlton are expected to line-up 3-5-2, with Alex Mitchell, Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey forming the back three in front of goalkeeper Mannion,

Kayne Ramsay and Edwards will operate as wing-backs, while captain Docherty is joined by Conor Coventry and Karoy Anderson in midfield.

Ahadme and Tyreece Campbell, who both scored against Portsmouth last weekend, continue up front.

Charlton: Mannion; A.Mitchell, Jones, Gillesphey; Ramsay, Coventry, Docherty (c), Anderson, Edwards; Ahadme, Campbell

Subs: Maynard-Brewer, Edmonds-Green, Watson, Small, Berry, Aneke, Kanu

So here we go, eyes down for a full house everyone...

Haha mate spoken as a true fan !! Nothing can replace today’s feeling of excitement and anticipation when we know that the chances are it’s all downhill from now. I suppose the one benefit of the 5.30 ko is we get to keep the feeling a bit longer 😂

That’s early! Did they post on Twitter, then realise and delete it?

If that’s the 18: no Terry Taylor, Matty Godden, Tayo Edun, Nathan Asiimwe, Zach Mitchell.

Anderson in front of Berry means he must have trained well. A bold move from NJ

Campbell, Anderson and Edwards clearly impressing enough in pre season, reckon most of us had Berry, Godden and Small in our opening day lineups

Exactly how I thought we'd line up. Wigan are a good side and it's the first game of the season so Jones will want to be solid. Edwards offers more of a defensive base and Small will come on later in the game to run at them as they tire. Anderson will harry and push and then we'll likely bring Berry on if we need a goal. Campbell will stop them from playing too high and create space for Ahadme to receive the ball and hold it up, hopefully allowing the midfield to join the attack unlike last season where it always came back at us. Chuks on the bench as well to ruin their day as it goes on. I'd love a win but god would I like a clean sheet and no gifted goals for the opposition

Jones is clearly stealing the starting eleven from my Match Preview - Cant the Manager come up with his own ideas?

Interesting we've got both backup Wing-Backs on the bench, can clearly expect a lot of running in games from Ramsay and Edwards if this is what we can expect to see.

Godden can’t just be a concussion protocol then

Unchanged from last weekend. Not really surprised given how well it went, but does also hint at this being the plan for today’s line up all along.

Jones mentioned in his pre match press conference Godden had some stiffness.

Having been away until yesterday, the colours being used for the team sheet, was the first time I realised what our Away kit even was.

Jones mentioned in his recent interview that it was ‘stiffness’.

It's no surprise that the team is the same as last Saturday, you'd expect the lineup for the final friendly to be close to the final one.

Sad to see no Godden. To me he's Alfie's replacement as the experience natural goalscorer. Might still be "injured" from the clash of heads 2 weeks ago.

No massive surprises there. Godden I think is out as a precaution, Assimwe and Mitchell are the spare youth players and Edun is just spare. Taylor is the only one who can feel a little unfortunate to miss out but I like that we've got both wingbacks, two strikers and an attacking midfielder there to change the game. If Coventry goes down we can always bring REG on in a pinch or drop Anderson/Docherty deeper
